Edwin Díaz - Falls into win SaturdayDiaz (2-2) picked up the win in Saturday's 4-3 victory over the Phillies, getting charged with one run in one inning after walking one batter and hitting another with a pitch. He s...
ImpactEntering the game in the top of the ninth inning with the score tied 2-2, Diaz put the first two batters he faced aboard and then uncorked a wild pitch, setting up Nick Maton to bring home a run with a sacrifice fly. The Mets closer was able to escape without further damage, however, and was still the pitcher of record when his team's offense rallied for two runs in the bottom of the frame. Through 11 appearances in June, Diaz has a 2.61 ERA with a 14:3 K:BB through 10.1 innings and seven saves in eight chances.

Hoskins tries to set things write after another blown gameHow bad did another loss to the New York Mets Saturday impact Rhys Hoskins? It moved him to at least momentarily change jobs.

Jacob deGrom - Scoreless streak endsDeGrom didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Phillies, giving up two runs on three hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out five.
ImpactThe right-hander hadn't been tagged for a run since May 25, but deGrom saw his scoreless streak end at 31 innings on an RBI single by Nick Maton in the second frame. In fact, this was the first time in 2021 he's allowed more than one earned run in an outing. The Mets ace still delivered his ninth quality start of the season, and he sports a 0.69 ERA and absurd 122:11 K:BB through 78 innings on the year.

Andrew McCutchen - Swipes two bags SaturdayMcCutchen went 1-for-2 with two runs scored, an RBI and two stolen bases in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Mets.
ImpactJames McCann was brought in by the Mets in the offseason to improve the team's performance against opposition basestealers, but the pitching staff still features a number of slow deliveries and the Phillies took advantage Saturday, going 5-for-6 on steal attempts while either Jacob deGrom or Edwin Diaz were on the mound. McCutchen only has five stolen bases on the year and hadn't swiped one since May 13, but he clearly still has a bit of juice in his 34-year-old legs.

Héctor Neris - Blows another saveNeris (1-5) took the loss Saturday, giving up two unearned runs on one hit and two walks in two-thirds of an inning in a 4-3 loss to the Mets. He struck out one.
ImpactThe Phillies took a 3-2 lead in the top of the ninth inning and manager Joe Girardi turned to Neris rather than Jose Alvarado to close the door. Instead, Rhys Hoskins committed a fielding error to put the leadoff man aboard and the right-hander fell apart, walking in the tying run before a Michael Conforto sacrifice fly ended it. Alvarado blew a save attempt Friday after Girardi had suggested the southpaw was now the team's top option in the ninth, and until someone else in the Phillies bullpen shows they can get the job done consistently, Neris will likely remain in the closer mix despite going 11-for-17 on save chances this season.

Zach Eflin - Tosses quality start SaturdayEflin didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Mets, allowing one run on five hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out four.
ImpactThe right-hander exited the game in line for his third win of the year, but the Phillies' bullpen once again melted down. Eflin still came through with his ninth quality start of the season, and he'll carry a 4.20 ERA and 87:11 K:BB through 90 innings into his next outing.
