Craig Stammen - Serving as opener againStammen will serve as the opener for Sunday's game against the Phillies, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ImpactStammen has filled the same role on three previous occasions this season, making his first starts since 2010. He hasn't recorded more than six outs in an appearance since mid-April, so don't expect him to pitch too deep into Sunday's game. The Padres have yet to announce anyone as the bulk reliever following Stammen, so it's likely this will be a bullpen game.

Javy Guerra - Shut down for seasonThe Padres aren't expecting Guerra (elbow) to return from the 60-day injured list to pitch in 2021,Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ImpactGuerra has been on the IL all season with a sprained UCL in his right elbow, but the Padres haven't formally announced that he'll require Tommy John surgery to address the injury. Even so, the 25-year-old apparently isn't on the verge of beginning a rehab assignment, so he'll be shut down for the season and turn his focus to getting healthy for next spring. Guerra is one of eight Padres pitchers currently residing on the IL who has been ruled out for the season.

Jorge Oña - Kicks off rehab assignmentOna (elbow) began a rehab assignment Aug. 12 with the Padres' Arizona Complex League affiliate and has gone 1-for-9 with a double, a walk, two runs and an RBI through three games.
ImpactThe 24-year-old outfielder has been sidelined all season after requiring a procedure in May to remove a bone spur from his right elbow. More than three months later, Ona finally looks to be healthy again, but he'll essentially need to go through a de facto spring training before the Padres reinstate from the 60-day injured list. The San Diego outfield was already overflowing with talent even before shortstop Fernando Tatis converted to right field, so Ona will presumably be optioned to the minors once his rehab assignment concludes.
