Luis Oviedo - DFA'd by PittsburghOviedo was designated for assignment by the Pirates on Thursday.
ImpactOviedo began the year on the injured list with an ankle injury and was optioned to Double-A Altoona when he was activated from the IL on Monday. The 22-year-old has made three appearances (two starts) in the minors this year and has allowed a run in 2.2 innings. If he goes unclaimed on waivers, he'll presumably remain in the organization.

ImpactDe Jong missed the end of the 2021 season after undergoing knee surgery, but he was healthy for most of spring training. He's made three appearances (two starts) at Triple-A Indianapolis this year and has posted a 2.08 ERA, 19:5 K:BB and 0.92 WHIP in 13 innings and will be rewarded with a major-league roster spot after Roansy Contreras was sent down Thursday.

ImpactContreras served as a long reliever for the Pirates early in the season, and he logged a 3.52 ERA and 0.91 WHIP while striking out in in 7.2 innings in three appearances. However, he'll head to the minors after right-hander Chase De Jong's contract was selected Thursday. Contreras has served mainly as a starter in the minors and should spend time in the rotation in Indianapolis.

ImpactFrelick had seven hits all season prior to Wednesday, but he nearly matched that mark in one contest, and in the process improved his slash line to .300/.404/.450 through 47 plate appearances. Frelick just turned 22 and is one of the top prospects in the Brewers' system, so he will have a chance to move up the ranks before the year comes to a close.

ImpactAfter going 0-for-3 with two strikeouts to start the day, Hiura gave the Brewers a couple of important insurance runs with his first home run of the season in the seventh inning off Pirates reliever Miguel Yajure.
