Brandon Woodruff - Strikes out nine in tough-luck lossWoodruff (1-1) was handed the loss Sunday against the Pirates after allowing two runs on four hits while striking out nine over five innings.

ImpactWoodruff was impressive overall in his return to the mound for the first time since April 7. While he limited the Pirates to just four hits, three of the four hits went for extra bases including two solo home runs. Woodruff reached 97 MPH with his fastball and sinker and looked like he hadn't missed a beat. The 30-year-old reached 85 pitches and threw well enough for a win but the Brewers' bats were quieted. Woodruff will look to change his luck when he matches up against the White Sox next weekend.

Connor Joe - Hitting streak reaches five gamesJoe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's win over the Brewers.

ImpactJoe hit one of three home runs on the day for the Pirates with his being a solo shot to left field to begin the fourth. Joe has just two home runs since the beginning of June but has now hit safely in five straight games while picking up an extra-base hit two days in a row. Joe remains in a short-side platoon role at first base with Alfonso Rivas while occasionally picking up starts at DH like he did Sunday.

ImpactReynolds entered as a pinch-hitter in the eighth and sent a two-run blast to right center field in the eighth to put the Pirates up 4-0. Reynolds now has three home runs over his last seven games and is up to 14 on the year. He's found his swing again after some initial struggles coming off the injured list in early July. Before the demotion to Triple-A, Gonzales had already seemingly lost hold of a regular role in the middle infield, as Liover Peguero and Alika Williams emerged as the Bucs' primary options at second base and shortstop, respectively.
