Brandon Woodruff - Strikes out nine in tough-luck lossWoodruff (1-1) was handed the loss Sunday against the Pirates after allowing two runs on four hits while striking out nine over five innings.
ImpactWoodruff was impressive overall in his return to the mound for the first time since April 7. While he limited the Pirates to just four hits, three of the four hits went for extra bases including two solo home runs. Woodruff reached 97 MPH with his fastball and sinker and looked like he hadn't missed a beat. The 30-year-old reached 85 pitches and threw well enough for a win but the Brewers' bats were quieted. Woodruff will look to change his luck when he matches up against the White Sox next weekend.

Connor Joe - Hitting streak reaches five gamesJoe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's win over the Brewers.
ImpactJoe hit one of three home runs on the day for the Pirates with his being a solo shot to left field to begin the fourth. Joe has just two home runs since the beginning of June but has now hit safely in five straight games while picking up an extra-base hit two days in a row. Joe remains in a short-side platoon role at first base with Alfonso Rivas while occasionally picking up starts at DH like he did Sunday.

Bryan Reynolds - Supplies pinch-hit home runReynolds went 1-for-1 with a two-run homer in Sunday's win over the Brewers.
ImpactReynolds entered as a pinch-hitter in the eighth and sent a two-run blast to right center field in the eighth to put the Pirates up 4-0. Reynolds now has three home runs over his last seven games and is up to 14 on the year. He's found his swing again after some initial struggles coming off the injured list in early July. Reynolds is hitting .384 with seven RBI and seven runs scored over his last 10 games and is slashing .267/.329/.453 with 53 RBI and 52 runs in 417 plate appearances.

Endy Rodríguez - Homers as part of three-hit dayRodriguez went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs scored in Sunday's win over the Brewers.
ImpactRodriguez tallied his second multi-hit effort and his first three-hit game since he was called up in mid-July. The 23-year-old has gotten off to a slow start in his first taste at the major league level, as he's now slashing .231/.286/.462 with two homers, seven RBI, 8 runs and a 4:20 BB:K in 56 plate appearances. Rodriguez should get all the playing time he can handle down the stretch with his only competition behind the dish being Jason Delay, who has made two starts since being called up Aug. 1.

Johan Oviedo - Blanks Brewers in winOviedo (6-11) earned the win over the Brewers on Sunday after tossing seven scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and walking three. He struck out six.
ImpactOviedo was in complete command of the Brewer hitters and continued his recent run of dominance on the mound. He's allowed one run or fewer in four of his last five starts and has 11 has totaled 11 such starts this season which is the second most in the National League. With Sunday's spectacular outing, Oviedo has tied Mitch Keller for the team lead with 12 quality starts and now possesses the lowest ERA on the team with a 4.21. The only knack on the 25-year-old is he's issued multiple walks in seven consecutive starts. He'll look to keep rolling in a projected start against the Reds,

Nick Gonzales - Heads back to minorsThe Pirates optioned Gonzales to Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday.
ImpactGonzales lost his spot on the 26-man active roster when the Pirates needed to make room for first baseman Alfonso Rivas, whom the team acquired from the Padres on Tuesday. Before the demotion to Triple-A, Gonzales had already seemingly lost hold of a regular role in the middle infield, as Liover Peguero and Alika Williams emerged as the Bucs' primary options at second base and shortstop, respectively. Gonzales turned in a .216/.268/.353 with two home runs and no stolen bases over 112 plate appearances with Pittsburgh in his first stint in the big leagues.
