Impact This is Hodge's second demotion to Triple-A this season. He gave up three earned runs, including two home runs, in one inning Friday in Cincinnati, and the Cubs will bring up a fresh arm (Jordan Wicks) to replace Hodge in the bullpen.

Impact Hodge worked the sixth inning after starter Shota Imanaga allowed three earned runs across five innings, and the former matched that in his lone frame. The righty reliever served up home runs to Spencer Steer and Elly De La Cruz as he saw his ERA climb to 6.27. With the Cubs headed toward the postseason, Hodge has done very little this year to earn a spot in the playoff bullpen.

The Cubs then turned to Keller for the final out, and he managed to earn his second save of the season by cleaning up Hodge's mess. Hodge continues to struggle with a 5.81 ERA and 1.52 WHIP across 31 innings this season, and Monday's poor effort won't help the righty earn any more high leverage work in Chicago's bullpen.

Impact Hodge was recalled from Triple-A Iowa before the game and was making his first MLB appearance since July 8. The righty was a bit fortunate he didn't allow more than the one run, as he walked two batters in an appearance for just the second time this year at the MLB level. After a strong rookie campaign in 2024, Hodge has struggled this season with a 6.93 ERA and 1.66 WHIP across 24.2 innings for the Cubs. With Daniel Palencia emerging as Chicago's closer, Hodge is mostly off the fantasy radar at this point.

Impact The right-hander got opportunities to close early in the season, but he's been at Triple-A since late July after recovering from a shoulder injury. Hodge has struggled to a 6.85 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 25:12 K:BB across 23.2 major-league innings this year, and he didn't fare much better for Iowa with a 6.61 ERA. Daniel Palencia has since locked down the closer role for the Cubs, and Hodge will likely fill a lower-leverage role.

Impact Hodge is over the shoulder issue that sent him to the IL earlier this month, but the Cubs have decided to keep him at Iowa where he had been on a rehab assignment. The hard-throwing righty should get another chance with the big club later this season.
