Impact With Teoscar Hernandez (oblique) and George Springer (forearm) sidelined, Tapia has started to get consistent playing time and he's finding a rhythm at the plate, going 5-for-14 (.357) over the last three games with a homer, two steals, two RBI and three runs. Springer could be back at some point this weekend, but Tapia's hot streak could keep him in the starting lineup -- and hitting at the top of the order -- for a little while longer.

Impact He got the Blue Jays on the board by taking Nick Pivetta deep in the second inning, then swiped a bag in the seventh after reaching first on a strike three wild pitch by Matt Barnes. The homer and steal were both the first of the season for Tapia, but until Wednesday he hadn't been taking much advantage of the playing time that's opened up with Tesocar Hernandez (oblique) on the shelf. Impact From a playing-time perspective, Tapia could be one of the big winners of Danny Jansen's recent move to the injured list with an oblique strain that manager Charlie Montoyo said would likely sideline the catcher for multiple weeks. While Jansen is out, Alejandro Kirk is expected to see more work behind the plate and fewer starts out of the designated-hitter spot. The Blue Jays could look to rotate the likes of Teoscar Hernandez, Lourdes Gurriel and George Springer in the DH spot, with Tapia being the main beneficiary of more starts in the outfield as a result. The lefty-hitting Tapia may have a tougher time finding regular at-bats against southpaw starters, however.

Traded to Toronto Tapia and Adrian Pinto were traded from the Rockies to the Blue Jays on Thursday in exchange for Randal Grichuk and cash considerations, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.

Impact The core of the deal is an unusual swap of major-league outfielders in Tapia and Grichuk. Tapia gets the short end of the stick there, as he's moving away from the hitters' paradise of Coors Field and joins a much stronger roster where playing time will be harder to come by. Tapia has been a fine fantasy option in Colorado, as the large outfield at Coors Field has helped him to a .280 batting average, but he owns a lifetime 78 wRC+ once the very hitter-friendly park is factored in, so it's hard to see him carving out a significant role for a contender like the Blue Jays, unless there's an injury ahead of him on the depth chart.

Impact Tapia will receive a $2 million pay raise in his second year of arbitration after he slashed .273/.327/.372 with six home runs, 20 stolen bases, 69 runs and 50 RBI across 533 plate appearances in 2021. With the Rockies bringing aboard Kris Bryant earlier this month and planning to install him as their everyday left fielder, Tapia could move into more of a fourth-outfielder role during the upcoming season.
