Becomes free agent The Astros non-tendered Urias on Friday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Impact The decision to non-tender Urias became expected after the Astros pushed him off the 40-man roster Tuesday. The 31-year-old infielder finished the 2025 campaign slashing .241/.292/.384 through 391 plate appearances between the Orioles and Astros, and his defense should be enough to net him another big-league contract in the offseason.

Booted off 40-man roster The Astros designated Urias for assignment Tuesday.
Impact The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Miguel Ullola. Urias is projected to make more than $4 million in his final year of arbitration eligibility, which the Astros evidently feel is too much. The 31-year-old is a career .257/.321/.403 hitter and capable defender at second and third base, so he shouldn't have difficult landing a major-league contract this winter, assuming he clears waivers and becomes a free agent.

Out of Friday's starting lineup Urias is not in the Astros' starting lineup against the Rangers on Friday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact Urias has started in each of Houston's last four games, but he went 0-for-10 with one RBI and six strikeouts during the Astros' three-game home series against the Yankees. He'll be on the bench for the start of Friday's contest while Jose Altuve starts at the keystone and Yordan Alvarez serves as the designated hitter.

Drawing fourth straight start Urias will start at second base and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Yankees.
Impact Urias will pick up his fourth straight start at the keystone after going 3-for-10 with a home run, a double, a walk and two RBI over the previous three contests. With Jose Altuve seeing most of his playing time of late at designated hitter or in left field, Urias looks like he could be a stable part of the lineup at second base while he's swinging a hot bat. Urias could eventually face competition for reps at second from Mauricio Dubon, who has been playing more in center field of late but may become more of a factor in the infield once Jake Meyers (calf) returns from the injured list.

Sitting after five straight starts Urias is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Impact Urias had started the last five games while going 6-for-20 with one home run, one double, three RBI and two runs, but he'll hit the bench as Jose Altuve covers the keystone. Altuve has been serving as Houston's primary designated hitter of late, but he'll need to shift back to second base once Yordan Alvarez (hand) is activated from the injured list later this month, leaving no path to regular playing time for Urias.
