Sent back to Triple-A The Padres optioned Knehr to Triple-A El Paso on Thursday.

Impact Knehr returned to the minors one day after he was called up to make a spot start in the second half of a doubleheader with Atlanta. He has yet to be officially credited with any statistics from that start; he gave up three runs on one hit and two walks over 1.2 innings, departing with a 5-2 lead before the game was suspended in the bottom of the fifth due to inclement weather while the Padres held a one-run advantage. Atlanta and San Diego are expected to make up the contest during their series in late September, so Knehr's statistics won't appear on his season-long ledger until the suspended game is completed.

Impact Knehr will be picking up his second start of the season for the Padres after he was touched up for two runs on three hits and four walks while striking out three in 3.2 innings July 9 against the Rockies. Due to the mounting injuries to the San Diego rotation, Knehr will temporarily step in as the club's fifth starter, but he could be headed back to the minors if Ryan Weathers (ankle) is ready to return from the injured list for this weekend's series in Miami.

Could start Tuesday The Padres may promote Knehr from Triple-A El Paso to start Tuesday against Atlanta, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Impact Knehr is with the team as part of the taxi squad and could be called upon for at least one spot start. Monday's game is threatened by rain, however, so the Padres won't finalize their plans until they know when they'll wind up playing. Knehr made his big-league debut earlier this season but appeared just once, giving up two earned runs in 3.2 innings.

Impact Knehr was recalled from Double-A San Antonio to start in place of Blake Snell (sick) on Friday. He did not factor in the decision while allowing two runs on three hits and four walks across 3.2 innings. He'll now get his first taste of Triple-A with El Paso, and he figures to be an option for another spot start with the Friars later this season.

Adequate in debut Knehr pitched 3.2 innings in Friday's 4-2 win against Colorado, allowing two runs on three hits and four walks with three strikeouts. He didn't factor into the decision.

Impact Knehr was decent filling in for Blake Snell though the start could've gone much worse. The rookie walked in a run with no outs in the second but was able to retire the next three Rockies then surrendered an RBI double to opposing starter Kyle Freeland before being removed in the fourth. He'll most likely return to the minors following the one-start cameo.

Called up to start Friday The Padres recalled Knehr from Double-A San Antonio to start Friday's game against the Rockies, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Impact The righty makes the leap all the way to the big leagues to start in place of Blake Snell (fatigue). Knehr has pitched to a 3.90 ERA in 55.1 innings with a 46:22 K:BB in his 11 starts at Double-A. The Padres have not indicated how long into the game he's expected to pitch, but it doesn't figure to be more than a few innings.
