Impact Moronta owns a 2.70 ERA and a 37.0 percent strikeout rate in 10 Triple-A innings, but he's been unable to repeat that success at the major-league level. In 17.1 frames, he's struggled to a 4.67 ERA as his ERA has dropped to a merely good 27.0 percent. He's unlikely to pitch in high-leverage innings for now.

Impact Moronta has made 13 relief appearances for the Dodgers this year, posting a 3.68 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 14.2 innings. He was sent down in early July but will rejoin the major-league bullpen as a middle reliever after Brusdar Graterol (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day injured list.

Activated and optioned The Giants activated Moronta (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Sunday and optioned him to Triple-A Sacramento.

Impact Sidelined since mid-April with a sprained ligament in his right elbow, Moronta was cleared to begin a rehab assignment July 22. With the right-hander having reached the maximum amount of days he was eligible to spend on the assignment, the Giants had to reinstate him from the 60-day IL and clear a spot for him on the 40-man roster. Moronta posted a 2.25 ERA over his 10 appearances at Triple-A, but his ugly 7:8 K:BB in eight innings likely made the Giants unwilling to make room for him in the big-league bullpen.
