Sticking in six-man rotation The White Sox are expected to use a six-man rotation over the rest of the season, which will allow Lopez to make a few more starts, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

Impact The goal will be to give Carlos Rodon extended rest between starts in advance of the postseason. Lopez, who lines up to start Thursday against the Angels, has a 3.00 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 18 strikeouts in 24 innings as a starter this season.

Impact It wasn't his best outing, but Lopez held things in check enough to give the White Sox a chance. Unfortunately, he failed to receive run support from his teammates while also dealing with defensive woes. The right-hander may not receive another chance in the rotation next week with Lucas Giolito (hamstring) and Lance Lynn (knee) nearing their returns from the injured list. Over his previous five starts, Lopez has submitted a 3.32 ERA while striking out 16 and holding opposing batters to a .200 average in 19 innings.

Impact Lopez entered the contest fresh off five perfect relief innings his last time out, but he was much less effective Saturday. The right-hander was given an early 6-0 lead but gave half of the lead back in the third frame, with two runs coming on a long ball by Salvador Perez. Lopez's ERA rose to a still-superb 2.08, and there's a chance that he could make another start depending on the status of Lucas Giolito, who is currently dealing with a hamstring injury. if Giolito is able to come back in time for his next start, Lopez will likely return to the bullpen.

Lopez provided excellent length in a relief assignment after starter Dallas Keuchel was shelled for six runs (five earned) in the first inning of Friday's 17-13 crosstown slugfest. Through 34 innings, Lopez has a 1.59 ERA, 0.71 WHIP and 37:7 K:BB. He still threw just 59 pitches (40 strikes), but the 27-year-old has been an effective innings-eater in the bullpen while holding his own in four starts this year, as he's yet to allow more than three runs in any appearance.

Impact As expected, Lopez will make a second turn through the rotation as a replacement for Carlos Rodon (shoulder), who is expected to spend more than the minimum 10 days on the injured list after being deactivated last week. Though Chicago could have turned to All-Star Lance Lynn to start Tuesday after his last outing came in Thursday's win over the Yankees in the "Field of Dreams" game, he'll instead get an extra day of rest, clearing the way for Lopez to take the hill for the second game of the series with Oakland. He'll be thrust into starting duty on short notice while the White Sox rejigger their pitching schedule following Carlos Rodon's (shoulder) move to the IL, but expect the White Sox to limit Lopez's workload. He'll be pitching on two days' rest and hasn't covered more than three innings since getting a call-up from Triple-A Charlotte in mid-July, so Lopez shouldn't be expected to go through the Minnesota batting order more than once. Michael Kopech -- who hasn't pitched since Saturday -- could be a candidate to work multiple innings behind Lopez.
