Limited power in spring training Hoskins finished Grapefruit League play with a .205/.295/.333 slash line to go with three extra-base hits (one home run, two doubles) and two stolen bases in 39 at-bats.

Impact Hoskins was cleared for full activities early in spring training after undergoing Tommy John surgery last fall, but he largely struggled to regain the power he had displayed prior to the operation. The 27-year-old should gradually return to form once the surgery is further in the rear-view mirror, but his fantasy managers may want to temper expectations for him in the initial weeks of the season. That said, Hoskins' strong eye at the plate will help prop up his on-base percentage even if his early returns in the slugging department are lean, and his placement in the upper half of the lineup alongside the likes of Bryce Harper, Andrew McCutchen and J.T. Realmuto should present him with plenty of run-scoring and run-producing chances.

Making spring debut Thursday Hoskins (elbow) will make his spring debut Thursday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Impact Hoskins has not taken the field since being cleared to play in late February, but he is set to do just that Thursday. While he will serve as the designated hitter, he will get a chance to get in his first at-bats of the spring. Barring any issues, Hoskins will have plenty of time to get up to full speed before Opening Day.

Impact Hoskins' readiness for Opening Day was initially thought to be at risk when he underwent Tommy John surgery back in early October. While he hasn't yet gotten into a Grapefruit League game, that's also true of other Phillies regulars who aren't coming off injuries like Bryce Harper. Hoskins said at the start of camp that he expects to be ready for the start of the regular season, and that should still be true as long as he gets into game action soon and gets through it without setbacks.

Cleared to play Hoskins (elbow) has been medically cleared to play and expects to be ready for Opening Day, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Impact Hoskins bounced back from a somewhat disappointing 2019 campaign in last year's shortened season, hitting .245/.384/.503. His campaign was cut short after just 41 games, however, as he suffered an elbow injury in mid-September which eventually required Tommy John surgery. That procedure carries a much shorter recovery timeline for hitters than it does for pitchers, but his readiness for Opening Day still appeared in doubt at the time of the procedure. He's evidently found himself on the fast end of the timetable, so he should have plenty of time to get up to speed and play a full regular season, barring setbacks.
