Sent to Double-A The Rangers optioned Vanasco (elbow) to Double-A Frisco on Monday. Impact The Rangers thought enough of Vanasco -- a 15th-round pick in 2017 -- to protect him from the Rule 5 draft by adding him to the 40-man roster over the winter, despite the fact that he hasn't pitched in a game since 2019 due to the cancellation of the 2020 minor-league season and then Tommy John surgery in September 2020. According to Kennedi Landry of MLB.com, Vanasco was able to face hitters in fall instructional ball when the Rangers held exhibitions against players from Texas Christian University, so the 23-year-old right-hander looks as though he'll be ready to go for the start of the Double-A season in early April.
