Rehab assignment coming soon Greene (hamstring) is expected to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday as the designated hitter for Triple-A Toledo, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Impact Greene is traveling with the Tigers and is scheduled to run the bases in San Francisco on Sunday, and he may do so again Monday in Detroit. If all goes well, the Tigers will then formally clear Greene to join Toledo for the rehab assignment. He'll likely need to play the outfield at some point during his time with Toledo before being activated from the 10-day injured list, which could happen as soon as next weekend. Greene has been on the IL since July 26 with a right hamstring strain.

Running bases Sunday Greene (hamstring) is scheduled to begin running the bases Sunday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Impact Greene resumed taking batting practice last week, and Sunday will mark his first time running the bases since he landed on the IL with a strained right hamstring. The Tigers have yet to announce any plans of sending the outfielder to the minors for a rehab assignment, though that could change if he's able to get through Sunday's base-running session without any problems.

Impact Though Greene checked out fine after taking swings against Mize, being able to run the bases and move laterally in the outfield without issue remains a major obstacle he'll need to clear in his recovery from a right hamstring strain before he'll be able to play in simulated games and/or head out on a minor-league rehab assignment. Based on where he currently stands in his recovery, Greene wouldn't seem to be a realistic option to return from the 10-day injured list during the upcoming week.

Impact Greene uncharacteristically was held out of the lineup Tuesday against a right-handed pitcher and didn't pop up in the Tigers' starting nine Friday. It's now known that he's dealing with a strained hamstring that will require an IL stint. Per Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic the strain is considered small, which could indicate that Greene won't miss much more time than the minimum 10 days. In the meantime, Mark Canha, Bligh Madris and Ryan Vilade could see more action in the outfield.
