Impact Stock was designated for assignment Sunday but will remain in camp as a non-roster invitee. His 4.24 ERA in 63.2 career inning at the major-league level is probably good enough to earn him some low-leverage opportunities for the big club at some point this season.

Impact Chicago has yet to announce a corresponding move, but the team will presumably use the open 40-man roster spot created by the transaction to clear room for the newly-signed Ryan Tepera or to activate Kyle Ryan from the COVID-19 injured list. The Cubs previously claimed Stock off waivers from the Red Sox in December after he posted a 4.73 ERA and 1.95 WHIP across 13.1 innings out of Boston's bullpen in 2020.

A hard-throwing right-hander, Stock has struggled to find the strike zone over parts of three seasons in the big leagues, walking 10.9 percent of the batters he's faced during his career.

Impact Stock has had inconsistent results while serving out of the major-league bullpen this season, and he'll head back to the alternate training site with just under a week remaining in the regular season. He's posted a 4.73 ERA and 14:10 K:BB over 13.1 innings so far in 2020. Nick Pivetta was recalled ahead of his scheduled start Tuesday in a corresponding move.
