Impact Stripling struggled right out of the gate Friday, yielding three runs in the first inning, including a two-run shot from Jose Ramirez. Stripling managed to turn in a few scoreless frames before Cleveland pushed two more runs across in the fifth. His velocity was down across the board, with the fastball averaging just under 91 mph. The veteran righty is currently in line to face the Red Sox at home next week.

Stripling didn't come close to matching his southpaw rotation mate in that regard, but he equaled Sears' workload and escaped without an earned run on his line. Won't exercise opt-out Stripling announced Friday that he will not exercise the opt-out in his contract with the Giants, Danny Emerman of KNBR.com reports.

Impact Stripling is now officially set to return to San Francisco for the 2024 season on a salary of $15 million. The 33-year-old right-hander likely would have struggled to find a sum that large in free agency after posting a 5.36 ERA over 11 starts and 11 relief appearances (89 innings) during the 2023 campaign.
