Sticks in bulk-relief role Tuesday The Rays plan to deploy Yarbrough as a bulk reliever behind opener Jimmy Yacabonis in Tuesday's game in Milwaukee, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Impact Yarbrough will follow an opener for his second straight outing after the arrangement paid dividends his last time out Wednesday, when he came on behind lefty Jalen Beeks. Though he didn't factor into the decision, Yarbrough delivered four innings of one-run ball while allowing just two baserunners and striking out one. The southpaw will follow the right-handed Yacabonis this time around, with the righty/lefty combination to begin the game perhaps deterring the Brewers from fielding a righty-heavy lineup that might have more success against Yarbrough.

Impact Jalen Beeks got the nod as the opener before Yarbrough entered the game in the second inning, and aside from a solo shot by Teoscar Hernandez in the fourth, the lefty shut down a potent Toronto offense completely. Yarbrough has been much improved since rejoining the Rays' staff just before the All-Star break, posting a 3.26 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 16:3 K:BB through 19.1 innings over his last four appearances (two starts), but he has yet to get into the win column since his return to the majors.

Impact Yarbrough was called up to prior to Saturday's start after spending most of June and the first half of July in the minors. The left-hander looked good against the Orioles, throwing 43 of 65 pitches for strikes and departing in the sixth inning in line for the victory. Though Tampa Bay's bullpen couldn't hold the lead, it was nonetheless a promising start for Yarbrough after he surrendered 10 runs over seven innings across two big-league appearances in June. Yarbrough could hold onto a rotation spot with Shane Baz (elbow) out until at least September, though Jeffrey Springs' (leg) imminent return could also push Yarbrough back to the minors or into the bullpen.

Impact Yarbrough will lose his spot in the rotation and on the 26-man active roster after he was shelled for six earned runs while recording only five outs in his last start Sunday against the White Sox. With the lefty's ERA now sitting at 5.65 for the season, the Rays will send him to Triple-A with the hope that he can find some more consistency.
