Jurickson Profar - Back in SD on minors deal Profar signed a minor-league contract with the Padres on Friday, Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Impact Profar left the Padres after declining a player option this past offseason but was cut loose by the Rockies last month after hitting just .236/.316/.364. He batted .244/.333/.375 with 26 homers in 345 games with the Padres between 2020-21. Profar will report to Triple-A El Paso for now but has a good shot to be added to the big-league club soon especially now that rosters are expanded.

Robert Suarez - Begins serving suspension Padres manager Bob Melvin said Suarez has dropped the appeal of his 10-game suspension and will begin serving it Thursday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Impact Major League Baseball handed Suarez the 10-game punishment last week for allegedly having a foreign substance on his arm as he prepared to make a relief appearance against the Marlins. He will be unavailable for a string of crucial series versus the Giants, Phillies and Astros.

Yu Darvish - Shut down with bone spur Darvish was diagnosed Thursday with a bone spur in his right elbow and will be shut down temporarily, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Impact Darvish has not yet been ruled out for the remainder of the year, but that could certainly happen eventually given that the Padres are currently 7.5 games back of the third NL Wild Card spot. The veteran right-hander was placed on the 15-day injured list this past Monday with an initial diagnosis of elbow inflammation.

Impact Pomeranz needed 25 pitches just to retire two of the five batters he faced in his first rehab outing at Triple-A and the second of his assignment overall after he previously tossed a scoreless inning for Single-A Lake Elsinore last Friday. The veteran southpaw has remained on the Padres' 60-day injured list all season and will likely require at least a handful of outings at El Paso before being deemed ready to rejoin the big-league bullpen.

Though Hill was spared the loss Wednesday, his performance didn't inspire much confidence that he'll be able to hold down a rotation spot once Darvish is back in the fold. Through five outings with San Diego since being acquired from Pittsburgh on Aug. 1, Hill has gone 0-3 with an 8.50 ERA and 1.61 WHIP over 18 innings.
