Impact Tatis is scheduled to take live batting practice Monday, and how his surgically repaired left wrist responds to the activity could dictate whether he's cleared for game action later this week or at some point next week. Since Tatis has been on the shelf since spring training, he'll likely need at least a handful of minor-league games to pick up at-bats and regain his timing at the plate. Even so, a mid-August return from the 60-day injured list is seemingly in play for Tatis if he avoids any setbacks in his buildup program.

Impact San Diego will part with an extensive package of established big-league pitching talent (Rogers and Lamet) and two prospects (Ruiz and Gasser) to fortify the back of its bullpen with Hader, a four-time All-Star who has arguably been baseball's top reliever since he reached the majors in 2017. Hader has proven more vulnerable to the long ball in 2022 and has seen his ratios suffer a bit as a result (4.24 ERA, 1.12 WHIP), but he's still sporting a massive 33.3 K-BB% and had converted 29 of his 31 save chances on the year. He'll provide a significant upgrade at closer over Rogers, who had recently been dropped from the role after a series of poor outings. The Brewers, meanwhile, are likely to either elevate ace setup man Devin Williams to the closer's role or give Rogers a chance to reclaim his old job as he changes organizations.

Joe Musgrove - Extension finalized Musgrove and the Padres agreed to terms Monday on a five-year, $100 million contract extension, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Impact Annie Heilbrunn of The San Diego Union-Tribune previously reported Friday that the right-hander and Friars had agreed to the parameters of the extension, and the two sides were apparently able to iron out the remaining details of the contract over the weekend. The deal keeps Musgrove in his hometown city through the 2027 campaign, his age-34 season. After a strong debut season with San Diego in 2021, Musgrove has raised the bar in 2022 by submitting a 2.65 ERA and 0.99 WHIP across 18 starts while also recently making his first All-Star Game appearance.
