Dinelson Lamet - Strikes out side in returnLamet returned from the 10-day injured list Wednesday and pitched a scoreless inning out of the bullpen while allowing one hit and striking out three.
ImpactLamet was finally activated ahead of Wednesday's game after missing over two months due to forearm and hip injuries. He allowed a double to Josh Rojas but was able to strike out the side and leave Rojas stranded in scoring position. Lamet acted as a starter earlier in the year but is expected to serve out of the bullpen for the time being, as the Padres should have a fully healthy rotation with Jake Arrieta (hamstring) expected to return and start Friday's game against the Astros.

Yu Darvish - Hit hard again in lossDarvish (7-9) lasted just 2.2 innings in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits and a walk while striking out three.
ImpactDarvish pitched two clean innings before the wheels completely came off in the third. He was able to record the first out of the frame before surrendering four runs on four consecutive hits, which was capped off by a two-run homer from Josh VanMeter. The Diamondbacks scored two more in the frame, though one of the runs was unearned. Darvish has posted an ugly 7.57 ERA in nine starts since July 3, raising his ERA from 2.44 to 4.05 over that span. It's unclear if he's still affected by the back injury or if the crackdown on grip enhancers is causing him to struggle, but he certainly hasn't look like himself over the past couple months. The 34-year-old will need to turn things around down the stretch if the Padres stand any chance of earning the second Wild Card spot. His next chance to take the mound is tentatively scheduled for next week against the Angels.

Wil Myers - Homers in lossMyers went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in Wednesday's 8-3 loss to the Diamondbacks.
ImpactMyers launched a two-run homer off Noe Ramirez in the seventh for his only hit of the day. The 30-year-old is coming off a pretty solid month of August, during which he slashed .294/.385/.471 with three homers, eight RBI, 13 runs scored, two steals and 10:19 BB:K over 23 games. He's off to a nice start as the calendar turns to September and will need to be on top of his game if the Padres want to challenge the Reds for the second Wild Card spot. For the year, Myers is slashing .262/.344/.448 with 16 homers, 55 RBI, 46 runs scored, eight steals and 47:134 BB: over 416 plate appearances.
