Jorge Alfaro - Riding pine MondayAlfaro isn't in the lineup for Monday's game against the Diamondbacks, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ImpactAlfaro went 2-for-9 with a double and a walk over the last three matchups and will be out of the starting lineup for a second straight game. Austin Nola is starting behind the plate and batting seventh.

Manny Machado - Not starting MondayMachado (ankle) is on the bench for Monday's game against Arizona, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
ImpactMachado left Sunday's game against the Rockies with a left ankle sprain after he stepped awkwardly on first base. He doesn't yet have a clear timeline for his return, but he'll miss at least one game, with acting manager Ryan Flaherty saying the team was optimistic he'd be able to avoid the injured list, per AJ Cassavell of MLB.com. CJ Abrams, who was recalled Monday to give the Padres extra infield depth with Machado unavailable, will enter the lineup at shortstop, with Ha-Seong Kim sliding to cover Machado's vacated spot at third base.

C.J. Abrams - Returns to majorsAbrams was recalled by the Padres on Monday.
ImpactAbrams joined the Opening Day roster straight from Double-A this season but looked overmatched. He was demoted a little over a month into the season after struggling to a .182/.270/.273 line in 20 games. He's fared far better in his first taste of Triple-A action, hitting .314/.365/.507 in 30 games for Triple-A El Paso. Depending on the severity of Manny Machado's ankle sprain, Abrams could be in line to start regularly going forward, with Ha-Seong Kim sliding to cover third base, leaving Abrams as the primary option at shortstop.

Reiss Knehr - Optioned to Triple-AKnehr was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Monday.
ImpactKnehr spent the weekend in the Padres' bullpen and struck out four in two scoreless relief innings during Friday's game against the Rockies. However, he'll head back to the minors after CJ Abrams was recalled Monday.

Sean Bouchard - Reaches base in debutBouchard went 0-for-3 with a walk Sunday against the Padres.
ImpactBouchard was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday but did not appear in a game until Sunday when he started in left field and hit eighth to make his big-league debut. The 26-year-old doesn't have much prospect pedigree, but he has consistently shown an above-average bat in the minors. Even so, he isn't likely to find regular playing time in Colorado without a significant number of injuries ahead of him.
JUNE 20, 2022ROTOWIRE
Garrett Hampson - Triples in returnHampson went 1-for-4 with a triple and a run scored Sunday against the Padres.
ImpactHampson was activated from the COVID-19 injured list Sunday and drew the start at shortstop while hitting ninth. He tallied his triple with one out in the fifth inning and came around to score on a Brendan Rodgers single. Jose Iglesias is likely to remain the primary shortstop, though Hampson has enough defensive versatility that he may be able to pick up several starts a week across the diamond.

Kris Bryant - Rehab assignment starts TuesdayBryant (back) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday at Triple-A Albuquerque, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports.
ImpactThe Rockies are planning on having Bryant play two or three games with Albuquerque, and if all goes well, he'll return from the 10-day injured list ahead of Friday's series opener in Minnesota. In between his two stints on the IL on account of back issues, Bryant has produced a .270/.342/.333 slash line in 73 plate appearances during his first season in Colorado.
