Jordan Lyles - Settling in with new teamLyles allowed two hits and struck out two over three innings in Friday's Cactus League game versus the Padres.
ImpactLyles has struck out six over eight innings this spring while allowing two earned runs, six hits and a walk. The right-hander was an effective innings-eater with the Orioles in 2022, posting a 4.42 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 144:52 K:BB across 179 innings. He should be a lock for the Royals' rotation after signing a two-year deal in December, though his ratios will likely continue to be just okay across the board.

Dylan Coleman - Decent work in springColeman has allowed one earned run on four hits and three walks while striking out six over three innings across three Cactus League appearances.
ImpactColeman was one of the Royals' more effective relievers in 2022, posting a 2.78 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, 71:37 K:BB and 16 holds over 68 games. The walk issues are still popping up this spring, and Coleman's 3.87 FIP last year suggests regression could be on the way if he can't improve at limiting baserunners.

Joe Musgrove - Throws bullpen sessionMusgrove (toe) threw a bullpen session Saturday, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.
ImpactMusgrove broke his left big toe at the end of February and was originally expected to be shut down from throwing for at least two weeks. He's ahead of schedule, however, as he resumed throwing on flat ground Wednesday and is now throwing bullpens three days later. Per Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune, he's targeting a season debut against Atlanta on April 6. Whether or not he can hit that aggressive timetable is not yet clear.

Adam Engel - Set for spring debutEngel (calf) will bat eighth and play left field Saturday against the White Sox.
ImpactEngel had been sitting out of spring action due to a right calf strain. Barring setbacks, he should still have time to build up by Opening Day. He should serve as the Padres' fourth or fifth outfielder this season.

Drew Pomeranz - Throws to live hittersPomeranz (elbow) threw live batting practice Friday, per 97.3 The Fan.
ImpactPomeranz has been taking things slowly this spring after missing all of last season while recovering from flexor tendon surgery to his left arm. However, the southpaw tossed a number of bullpen sessions leading up to throwing to live hitters for the first time Friday, and he's aiming to begin pitching in games within the next few weeks. If his recovery remains on that timeline, Pomeranz could avoid a stint on the injured list to begin the season.
