Pierce Johnson - Rehab assignment imminentJohnson (elbow) is traveling to Peoria on Thursday to begin a rehab assignment with the Padres' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tri...
ImpactJohnson has been on the injured list since April 22 due to right elbow tendinitis, but his rehab assignment represents a significant step forward in his recovery. The right-hander initially hoped to return in mid-to-late August, but it's possible that he ultimately rejoins the Padres sometime in September since he'll presumably require a relatively lengthy rehab assignment. Once he's ultimately healthy, Johnson should have a chance to carve out setup duties for the big-league club down the stretch.

The southpaw remained in the game for the sixth frame and retired the side on 11 pitches. Pablo López - Ambushed by PadresLopez (7-8) took the loss Wednesday, coughing up six runs on six hits and three walks over 4.2 innings as the Marlins fell 10-3 to the Padres. He struck out two.
ImpactA first-inning grand slam by Jake Cronenworth set the tone for the afternoon, and Lopez didn't escape the frame until a fifth run had crossed the plate. The right-hander settled down after that, but the damage was done. Lopez has failed to complete six innings in any of his last four starts, going 0-3 with a 9.00 ERA, 2.00 WHIP and 13:5 K:BB through 18 innings over that brutal stretch.
