Ha-Seong Kim - Still feeling sorenessKim "is still experiencing some abdominal discomfort," Annie Heilbrunn of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Manny Machado - Elbow surgery looking likelyMachado will likely require surgery on his ailing right elbow, and he could undergo the procedure before the campaign comes to a close, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune...
ImpactMachado will serve as the designated hitter in Monday's game against the Rockies, so he will not shut things down immediately and will presumably continue playing as long as the Padres remain in playoff contention. However, his season could come to an early end at some point, and if he undergoes the procedure his absence could extend into next season, as according to Marty he would likely be looking at a 6-to-7 month recovery timetable.

Brent Rooker - Bows out MondayRooker is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Mariners.
ImpactRooker homered three times over his last five games, but he will be held out Monday with manager Mark Kotsay loading up on left-handed hitters against Seattle right-hander Bryan Woo.

JJ Bleday - Expected to up activity levelBleday (knee) is expected to run the bases sometime this week and may subsequently head out on a short rehab assignment, the Associated Press reports.
ImpactBleday was originally thought to very likely be done for the season when he was diagnosed with an ACL sprain in mid-August, but the outfielder has progressively been disproving that assumption over the last few weeks. Bleday's recovery has been going faster than expected, with his most recent benchmark being a live batting practice session Friday. If Bleday does indeed run the bases without setbacks in the coming days and then gets in a quick rehab assignment before the minor-league season wraps up, he could have a chance to get some big-league at-bats in before the end of the 2023 campaign on Oct. 1.
