MacKenzie Gore - Recalled by San DiegoGore was recalled from Triple-A El Paso on Thursday.

ImpactGore will make his major-league debut Friday against Atlanta after Blake Snell (groin) was placed on the 10-day injured list. Snell's injury isn't believed to be particularly serious, so it's possible that Gore will return to the minors following a brief stint with the Padres. However, the 23-year-old is one of San Diego's top prospects and will likely have a chance to remain with the big-league club if he performs well as a fill-in option.

Blake Snell - Officially placed on injured listSnell (groin) was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to April 11.

ImpactSnell has said his left adductor tightness is "way more minor" than the issue he dealt with in 2021, but he'll still be forced to miss at least one turn through the rotation. He'll be eligible to return as early as April 22 since the move was backdated to Monday, but a timetable for his return isn't yet clear. Left-hander MacKenzie Gore was called up to take his place in the rotation and is scheduled for his big-league debut Friday versus Atlanta.

MacKenzie Gore - Confirmed to start FridayPadres manager Bob Melvin confirmed Gore will be called up from Triple-A El Paso to start Friday's game against Atlanta at Petco Park, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

ImpactSan Diego will likely wait until later Thursday or on Friday to make the transaction official, with Blake Snell (groin) heading to the injured list in a corresponding move. The Padres don't believe Snell's injury is a major concern, so Gore could be in line for a short-term stint in the rotation regardless of how he performs in his MLB debut. The possibility exists that Gore could stick with San Diego as a multi-inning option out of the bullpen or occasional spot starter after Snell's return, which would allow the organization to keep the 23-year-old's workload in check while providing him an opportunity to get acclimated to the big-league level in anticipation of a full-time rotation role in 2023.

ImpactAustin Nola received a look out of the leadoff spot Opening Day, but Grisham has since slotted in atop the lineup in each of the Padres' subsequent six games. Grisham has gone just 2-for-21 while reaching base at a .174 clip during that stretch, however, so it wouldn't be surprising if manager Bob Melvin elected to shuffle the lineup if the 25-year-old doesn't get going at the plate soon.
