Drew Pomeranz - Moves rehab to Triple-APomeranz (elbow) shifted his rehab assignment to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday and gave up two runs on one hit and two walks while recording two outs.
ImpactPomeranz needed 25 pitches just to retire two of the five batters he faced in his first rehab outing at Triple-A and the second of his assignment overall after he previously tossed a scoreless inning for Single-A Lake Elsinore last Friday. The veteran southpaw has remained on the Padres' 60-day injured list all season and will likely require at least a handful of outings at El Paso before being deemed ready to rejoin the big-league bullpen.

Ha-Seong Kim - Second straight two-hit gameKim went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to St. Louis.
ImpactAfter coming through with his second straight two-hit game, Kim is now sitting on an even .300 batting average since the beginning of June. In 78 total games over that stretch, Kim has supplemented the batting average with 12 home runs, 20 stolen bases, 56 runs and 33 RBI. The third-year infielder has been an underrated fantasy standout in 2023, and his ability to contribute quality numbers in five categories should make him a strong early-round building block in 2024 drafts.

Juan Soto - Extends hitting streak to fiveSoto went 2-for-3 with two RBI in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the Cardinals.
ImpactWith the pair of base knocks, Soto extended his hitting streak to five games. Though Soto's .262 batting average on the season still lags well behind the cumulative .291 mark he turned in over parts of five years with the Nationals, he's still on track for a sixth straight season with an on-base percentage north of .400 (.402).

Rich Hill - No-decision in return to rotationHill took a no-decision in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the Cardinals after striking out two while allowing three earned runs on five hits and one walk across four innings.
ImpactThe southpaw had made his most recent appearance out of the bullpen this past weekend in Milwaukee after opening his tenure with the Padres with three straight poor starts, but Hill reclaimed a spot in the San Diego rotation this week with Yu Darvish (elbow) heading to the 15-day injured list. Though Hill was spared the loss Wednesday, his performance didn't inspire much confidence that he'll be able to hold down a rotation spot once Darvish is back in the fold. Through five outings with San Diego since being acquired from Pittsburgh on Aug. 1, Hill has gone 0-3 with an 8.50 ERA and 1.61 WHIP over 18 innings.

Pedro Avila - Gets another startAvila will start Thursday's game against the Giants at Petco Park.
ImpactAvila flopped while stepping into the rotation for a struggling Rich Hill last weekend in Milwaukee, lasting 4.1 innings while giving up five earned runs on five hits and two walks in a losing effort. Despite the poor showing, Avila won't lose hold of his starting role, as the Padres will have room for both the 26-year-old right-hander and Hill in the rotation after Yu Darvish (elbow) was moved to the injured list earlier this week.
