Austin Nola - On track to play MondayPadres manager Bob Melvin said Nola (hand/nose) is slated to play in Monday's Cactus League finale versus the Rockies, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
ImpactNola had been expected to play Sunday versus the Mariners, but the Padres decided to err on the side of caution and hold him out for the day after he took a foul ball off his left (non-catching) hand while playing in a minor-league contest Saturday. The backstop had already been recovering from a fractured nose stemming from being hit in the face by a pitch March 19, but neither injury looks as though it'll prevent him from being ready to go for Opening Day. Provided Nola plays Monday as expected, he should head into the regular season as the Friars' top option behind the dish.

Juan Soto - Scheduled to take BP SundaySoto (oblique) isn't expected to play in another Cactus League game but will go through a workout Sunday and is scheduled to take batting practice, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
ImpactCassavell notes that if all of that goes well, Soto will get at bats on the back fields of the Padres' spring training facility in Peoria, Ariz. on Monday with the expectation that the activity would be enough to confirm his availability for the Thursday's Opening Day game versus the Rockies. The outfielder is dealing with a left oblique injury, but a recent MRI revealed only a minimal strain.

Austin Nola - Not in Sunday's lineupNola (hand/nose) isn't starting Sunday's spring game against the Mariners as previously reported, Bob Scanlan of Bally Sports San Diego reports.
ImpactThe 33-year-old exited a minor-league contest Saturday after taking a foul tip off his non-catching hand, and he's not in the lineup Sunday despite an earlier report indicating otherwise. Nola also suffered a fractured nose when he was hit in the face by a pitch March 19. According to AJ Cassavell of MLB.com, the veteran backstop is scheduled to hit in the cage Sunday and rejoin the lineup for Monday's Cactus League finale, so his outlook for Opening Day doesn't appear to be in question.

Cole Ragans - Runs into troubleRagans has given up nine runs (eight earned) over his last seven innings, all of which came as a reliever.
ImpactRagans is one of several depth starters that will need to work as a reliver if he wins a roster spot. He made noise early in camp when starting but has run afoul in two recent relief outings. In Thursday's appearance, he struggled early with command, and the Rangers used the spring re-entry rule for him to start the next inning. He ended up giving them another three innings. Rangers manager Bruce Bochy will decide if he's best suited for a multi-inning relief role in MLB or have him continue on a starter's trajectory at Triple-A Round Rock.
