Luis García - Lands on injured listGarcia (groin) was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday.
ImpactIt was announced Sunday that Garcia would be placed on the injured list, and the Nationals made the move official one day later. Garcia has been Washington's primary shortstop since the start of June, but CJ Abrams is set to fill that spot moving forward, so Garcia will shift over to second base when he is ready to get back on the field.

CJ Abrams - Called up by NationalsAbrams was recalled from Triple-A Rochester on Monday.
ImpactAbrams was assigned to Rochester after being acquired from the Padres earlier this month, but he earned another trip to the big leagues by going 9-for-27 (.333) over his last seven games at the Triple-A level, and he'll get his chance with Luis Garcia out with a groin injury. Abrams did not play every day for the Padres earlier this season, but with the Nationals out of the playoff hunt, he figures to be a fixture in Washington's lineup the rest of the way.

Cade Cavalli - Dominant outing SaturdayCavalli struck out a season-high 11 batters over seven innings Saturday for Triple-A Rochester in a win over Norfolk. He gave up only one run on three hits and two walks.
ImpactThe 24-year-old right-hander has had a roller coaster season, but Cavalli looked like a future big-league ace Saturday, tossing 64 of 96 pitches for strikes and fanning the side in three different innings. Since the beginning of July, Cavalli has a 1.42 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 35:9 K:BB through 31.2 innings over six starts, and he appears to be back on track to make a significant push for a rotation spot in Washington to begin the 2023 campaign.

Luis García - Will shift to second baseGarcia is expected to shift to second base after he returns to action from a groin injury, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
ImpactThe 22-year-old was once viewed as the Nationals' shortstop of the future, but CJ Abrams -- one of the headliners in the package the team received for Juan Soto -- now holds that distinction, and Abrams will be recalled this week to take over the role. Garcia has had significant defensive issues at short this season anyway, and a permanent move to second base could be better for him in the long run. He has at least shown improvement at the plate, slashing .289/.301/.417 through 60 games since his own promotion from Triple-A at the beginning of June, although his 4:48 BB:K remains a concern.
