Manny Machado - Takes grounders WednesdayMachado (hand) played catch and took grounders Wednesday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
ImpactMachado was able to receive the ball without issue despite the small fracture in his left (glove) hand. He's yet to take batting practice, which is going to be the biggest test, but Machado did take swings off a tee Tuesday. The star third baseman is making swift progress and might even be able to pull off a late-weekend return from the injured list. He's first eligible for activation Friday.

Drew Pomeranz - Undergoes elbow 'cleanup'Padres manager Bob Melvin said Pomeranz underwent "cleanup surgery" on his elbow Tuesday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
ImpactIt sounds like arthroscopic surgery, which carries a far shorter timetable than other elbow procedures and will keep hope alive that Pomeranz can be a contributor at some point in 2023. He hasn't appeared in a major-league game since 2021 due to a range of different injuries, the most notable of those being a flexor tendon strain.
