Mason Black - Rewarded with another start Black is scheduled to start Friday's game against the Padres in San Diego.

Impact Black turned in an ugly 8.79 ERA and 1.95 WHIP during his four starts with the Giants in May, but he staged a successful return to the big-league rotation this past Saturday, when he limited the Marlins to two runs on four hits and no walks while striking out six over five innings. The right-hander had shown improved form at Triple-A Sacramento in August prior to getting the call back to the Giants, but the matchup with a weak Miami offense still may have played a big part in Black's success. He'll get a tougher draw Friday against a Padres lineup that recently welcomed back Fernando Tatis, so Black could struggle to build upon his positive showing his last time out.

Blake Snell - Pulled after one inning Snell did not factor into the decision, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks over one inning against the Diamondbacks. He struck out two.

Impact Snell needed 42 pitches to escape the first inning thanks to a combination of a lack of control along with a lack of help from his defense. Snell was not hit hard, with only one ball leaving the infield but was done in by an infield single, a couple of walks, a throwing error that led to one run and a passed ball on a strikeout that was to have represented the third out and instead resulted in a second run crossing the plate. Despite only allowing one earned run, Snell's outing was complete following the inning. He entered the game with a 1.30 ERA over his previous 10 appearances while having struck out 10 or more four times while allowing one run or less during seven of those performances. He's next slated to take the hill when the Giants head to Milwaukee to take on the Brewers.

Impact Wade jumped on a four-seamer from Kevin Ginkel in the bottom of the seventh and sent it into the stands for a two-run shot to pull the Giants back within two runs of Arizona. He then added a clutch two-run single in the ninth to once again cut the deficit to two runs, though his diligent effort would fall short. The long ball was Wade's sixth of the campaign, while his four RBI on the night marked a season high. It also marked the outfielder's first multi-hit performance since Aug. 23 against the Mariners.

Impact It wasn't a great outing for Birdsong as the right-hander issued back-to-back walks to open the contest, followed by an RBI single to Josh Bell with one out. The 23-year-old would then give up a leadoff homer to Eugenio Suarez in the following frame and needed 77 pitches to get through three innings before being relieved by Spencer Bivens to open the fourth. Birdsong has now failed to make it through four innings in back-to-back starts while surrendering seven runs over that stretch. His five walks Wednesday also marked a season high and he's allowed four or more free passes in three-consecutive outings.

Matt Chapman - Staying in San Francisco long term Chapman and the Giants agreed to terms on a six-year contract extension Wednesday.

Impact Per Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times, Chapman will earn $25 million per year from 2025 to 2030 along with a one-time $1 million signing bonus. His previous contract, a one-year deal for 2024, included options in each of the next three years, but those will no longer be necessary. Chapman's been a boost for the Giants in his first year with the team, producing a .247/.333/.445 slash line, 22 home runs, 69 RBI, 90 runs scored, 33 doubles, one triple and 13 stolen bases over 136 contests this season. He was scratched from the lineup ahead of Wednesday's game, but he is not dealing with an injury and should be back in the starting nine for Thursday's series finale versus the Diamondbacks.
