Impact Sacramento suppresses offense more than any park in the Pacific Coast League, and while Schmitt hasn't blasted a home run yet, his 9.7 percent soft-hit rate and 5.9 percent infield-flyball rate suggest he is usually getting good wood on the ball. The 24-year-old infielder is known as much for his glove as his bat and has split time at shortstop (12 starts) and third base (eight starts). A 2023 debut could be in the cards if he ups his walks and either cuts his strikeouts and/or ups his power output.

Impact Tuesday had been lefty Sean Manaea's turn in the rotation, but manager Gabe Kapler is expected to push the southpaw to the back of the Giants' pitching schedule to optimize matchups against the Cardinals' right-handed-heavy lineup. With that in mind, Manaea presumably won't be called upon to work in long relief during the three-game series with St. Louis, making Junis the top candidate to eat innings once Brebbia exits Tuesday after what will likely be a 1-to-2-inning start. Impact Slater missed the first three-plus weeks of the season with a left hamstring strain.
