Ethan Small - Moves rehab to Single-A Small (oblique) shifted his rehab assignment to Single-A San Jose on Saturday and struck out two while allowing one hit and no walks over one inning.

Impact Small was cleared to join the Giants' California League affiliate after he struck out four over three innings of a one-run ball across his three rehab appearances in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. The southpaw will eventually move his rehab assignment up to Triple-A Sacramento, and he could remain with the Giants' top affiliate once he's activated from the 60-day injured list after his 30-day rehab window comes to a close. Small has been on the shelf all season with a right oblique strain.

Hayden Birdsong - Returns to minors The Giants optioned Birdsong to Single-A San Jose on Sunday.

Impact San Francisco previously optioned Birdsong to Single-A this past Monday, but the rookie right-hander didn't have to miss a turn through the rotation since the Giants were able to recall him from the minors to have him serve as the 27th man for Saturday's doubleheader with the Rockies. Birdsong took the hill for the second game of the twin bill and spun another gem, striking out eight over five shutout innings while the Giants rolled to a 5-0 win. Now that Birdsong has been optioned to the minors again, the Giants would need to place a player on the injured list in a corresponding move in order for the 22-year-old to be eligible to rejoin the big club in fewer than 15 days. Even though Birdsong holds a 2.97 ERA and 30.2 percent strikeout rate in the majors this season, it's unclear if the Giants will have room for him in their rotation. The Giants returned lefty Robbie Ray from the 60-day injured list this past week, and another starter in right-hander Alex Cobb (hip/shoulder) could be ready to come off the 60-day IL during the upcoming week.

Jordan Hicks - Won't start Sunday Hicks, who was scheduled to start Sunday against the Rockies, will be replaced by Erik Miller, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Impact Pavlovic reported Thursday that the plan was for Hicks to move to the Giants' bullpen, and that will be the case for Sunday's series finale. In his last start, Hicks took the loss against the Dodgers on Wednesday, allowing four runs and three hits and five walks while striking out seven across 3.2 innings. Over his last five starts, Hicks is 0-4 with an 8.18 ERA, 1.95 WHIP and 22:13 K:BB across 22 innings.

Erik Miller - Will open Sunday's game Miller will serve as the Giants' opening pitcher in Sunday's game against the Rockies, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Impact Jordan Hicks was slated to start in the series finale Sunday, but it appears he will move to the bullpen, per Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area. It will be the 10th time Miller will open this season, and over his last 10 outings he's posted a 1.86 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 14:5 K:BB across 9.2 innings.

Impact Fitzgerald went hitless in his first three trips to the plate before launching a solo shot in his final at-bat to extend San Francisco's lead to five runs. It marked the outfielder's eighth home run in his last 10 games while he also extended his hitting streak to 10 games with the long ball. For the month, Fitzgerald is now batting .390 with 11 extra-base hits, 15 RBI and 13 runs scored.
