Hayden Birdsong - Starting second game of twin bill Birdsong has been confirmed as the starter for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Rockies, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Impact Birdsong was sent to the minors even after striking out 12 while limiting the Rockies to two runs in six innings at Coors Field this past weekend. He'll make a second straight start against Colorado on Saturday, with this one coming at Oracle Park. Birdsong is likely to be sent back to the minors again no matter how he fares Saturday, presumably Alex Cobb (hip) gets through his final rehab start with no issues.

Jordan Hicks - Move to bullpen imminent The Giants are planning to move Hicks to the bullpen and could do so as soon as this weekend, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Impact Hicks made his last start on 11 days' rest but still struggled, yielding four runs on three hits and five walks with seven strikeouts over 3.2 innings in a loss to the Dodgers on Tuesday. He needed 92 pitches to cover his 3.2 frames and admitted again after the outing that his body feels "a little worn down." Hicks could get one more start Sunday, but if that happens he's expected to throw only three innings or so. The right-hander's conversion from reliever to starter began with a bang as he posted a 2.33 ERA and 48:19 K:BB over 58 innings in his first 11 starts. Since then, though, he's managed just a 6.42 ERA and 42:22 K:BB across 40.2 frames covering nine starts. Hicks' 98.2 innings are already his career high by 21 frames. He will move to short relief soon, but the Giants plan to put Hicks back in the rotation in 2025.

Michael Conforto - Not starting against lefty Conforto isn't in the Giants' lineup for Thursday's game against the Dodgers, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact With southpaw Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) slated to take the mound for the first time this season, the lefty-hitting Conforto will take a seat on the bench to begin Thursday's contest. Derek Hill will fill the open spot in left field while batting ninth.

LaMonte Wade - Resting versus lefty Wade isn't in the Giants' lineup for Thursday's game against the Dodgers, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact Left-hander Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) will be making his season debut Thursday, so the lefty-hitting Wade will step out of the lineup. David Villar will fill in at first base and bat sixth.

David Villar - Returns to majors The Giants recalled Villar from Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday.
Impact With Wilmer Flores (knee) headed for the injured list, the Giants will call upon Villar to provide the team with additional depth at first base. In six games with San Francisco this season, the 27-year-old has gone 5-for-17 with a home run and four RBI, and he's also posted an .857 OPS through 311 plate appearances in Triple-A. He'll presumably get the starting nod at first base against left-handers until Flores returns from the IL.

Wilmer Flores - Headed back to IL The Giants placed Flores on the 10-day injured list Thursday with right knee tendinitis, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Impact Flores just returned from the same injury a little over two weeks ago, but it appears he might not have ever totally recovered from the issue. He'll be eligible for activation in early August, but the Giants might take things slower this time in hopes that Flores can get over the hump with the injury.

Brett Wisely - Picks up second steal Wisely went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Wednesday's 8-3 win over the Dodgers.
Impact Wisely has offered little in production in July with no home runs, three RBI, two runs scored and one steal on three attempts over 17 games. The infielder also has a 2:17 BB:K this month. He's been better, as evidenced by his .268/.301/.396 slash line for the year over 174 plate appearances. The emergence of Tyler Fitzgerald at shortstop has left Wisely to compete with Thairo Estrada for playing time at second base, a situation where Wisely has the platoon advantage.

Mike Yastrzemski - Two hits, stolen base in win Yastrzemski went 2-for-3 with two RBI, a stolen base and a run scored in Wednesday's win over the Dodgers. He also drew a walk and was hit by a pitch.
Impact Yastrzemski walked in his first trip to the plate before adding an RBI single and a steal in the fourth to put the Giants up 2-1. He drove in another run in the eighth and went on to reach four times in the contest, increasing his average to .326 (15-for-46) in July. It marked the outfielder's fifth multi-hit performance this month and fourth in his last 10 games, while the stolen base was just his second of the season.

Matt Chapman - Reaches four times in win Chapman went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's win over the Dodgers while also drawing two walks.
Impact Chapman walked in his first at-bat before launching a leadoff homer in the fourth to tie the game at one run apiece. The third baseman would go on to reach base four times in the contest while also driving in multiple runs for only the second time this month. Following the two-hit performance, Chapman is still batting just .190 (12-for-63) in July with three homers, six RBI and 14 runs scored. He's also recorded at least one walk in three straight games.

Robbie Ray - Impresses in return Ray (1-0) earned the win over the Dodgers on Wednesday, allowing one run on two walks over five innings while not allowing any hits. He struck out eight and also beaned two batters...
Impact Ray struggled with his command in the first inning, allowing two walks while also hitting two batters with pitches, which led to a run coming home for the Dodgers. However, the veteran lefty came back strong in the second, striking out the side en route to hurling four consecutive 1-2-3 innings. Ray certainly impressed in his first start since undergoing Tommy John Surgery over a year ago, inducing 22 swings and misses on the night. He'll look to carry that momentum into his next outing, which is expected to come at home against Oakland next week.
