Zack Littell - Rehab assignment on tapLittell (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment at Single-A San Jose on Friday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

ImpactLittell has been on the injured list since early July due to his left oblique strain but is closing in on a return. It's not yet clear how many rehab appearances the right-hander will require before he's able to rejoin the Giants' bullpen, but it's possible that he'll be activated as early as next week.

ImpactEstrada was the only Giant to record multiple hits as the team's post-All-Star-break slump hit seven games. In that span, the infielder has hit a steady .292 with a double, four RBI and three runs scored. He's slashing .262/.315/.411 with 14 steals, nine home runs, 40 RBI and 49 runs scored in 87 contests overall. Estrada remains the everyday shortstop while Brandon Crawford (knee) is on the injured list.

Mark Melancon - Registers 14th saveMelancon earned a save over the Giants on Wednesday, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out one batter in one scoreless inning.

ImpactMelancon preserved a two-run ninth-inning lead, but not without difficulty. The veteran closer allowed two of the first three batters he faced to reach base before setting down the next two hitters. Melancon has had some blowups this season, but he's posted a 2.74 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 22:7 K:BB over his past 25 appearances dating back to May 18. He's converted 14 of 16 save opportunities on the season, so his role as Arizona's closer appears fairly secure for the time being.
