Michael Fulmer - Throws bullpen sessionFulmer (forearm) threw a successful bullpen session Wednesday, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

ImpactIt was his first time throwing off a mound since he landed on the 15-day injured list Aug. 26 due to a mild right forearm strain. There is not an exact timetable for Fulmer's return to the Cubs' bullpen, but he would seem to be getting close. He may be allowed to skip a minor-league rehab assignment if his side work continues to go smoothly.

Marcus Stroman - Faces hitters ThursdayStroman (ribs) threw a 29-pitch live batting practice session Thursday in Arizona, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

ImpactStroman has now advanced to facing live hitters as he works back from a rib cage cartilage fracture. On the shelf since late July, the 32-year-old right-hander appears to be nearing a minor-league rehab assignment and might be an option again for the Cubs' rotation in a couple of weeks. When healthy this season, Stroman has posted a 3.85 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 111:50 K:BB in 23 starts covering 128.2 innings.

Cobb threw a career-high 131 pitches in a complete game Aug. 29 against the Reds before yielding four earned runs over just three innings in his latest turn Sept. 3 at San Diego. He told reporters after that rough outing versus the Padres that he's been battling a left hip impingement since mid-June.

Haydn McGeary - Exit velocity darling at Double-AMcGeary is hitting .257/.385/.434 with 14 home runs and a 23.2 percent strikeout rate in 97 games for Double-A Tennessee.

ImpactAs a righty-hitting first base/designated hitter prospect, McGeary really needs to mash to eventually earn significant big-league playing time. His 90th percentile exit velocity was 110 mph earlier this season, per Eric Longenhagen of FanGraphs, which is similar to Vladimir Guerrero and Shohei Ohtani, and he has posted a 119 max exit velocity. So despite his .177 ISO at Double-A, there is elite power potential with McGeary if he can square up more balls. He turns 24 this offseason and is not eligible for the Rule 5 draft.
