ImpactFitzgerald has a crowded path to the majors, especially after the Giants signed Jorge Soler and Matt Chapman. Fitzgerald's best asset is versatility -- he can provide cover in the infield and in center field. Even then, Marco Luciano, Casey Schmitt or Nick Ahmed are more likely to get chances at shortstop, the Giants' most open position this spring. The 26-year-old Fitzgerald hit .219 over 10 games in the majors last season, but he'll likely need to bide his time at Triple-A Sacramento again in 2024.

Sean Hjelle - Diagnosed with sprained UCLHjelle will be shut down for a couple weeks after being diagnosed with a right elbow sprain, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ImpactHjelle had been in position to win either a long relief job or potentially even a spot in the rotation, but now he has what could be a long-term injury. He'll be re-evaluated following the shutdown period, presumably at which point a decision will be made as to whether he needs surgery.

ImpactGoodman has reportedly been chasing Sean Bouchard for a roster spot all spring training, and the Rockies' recent addition of Sam Hilliard further hurts his cause. Goodman had a productive big-league debut in 2023, racking up 17 RBI across 77 plate appearances. However, he also had a 31.2 percent strikeout rate in that span. His high rate of punchouts has carried over to this spring, as he has struck out eight times across 19 at-bats in the Cactus League.
