Johnny Cueto - Tracking toward Wednesday returnCueto (elbow) is expected to return from the 10-day injured list to start Wednesday's game against the Mets in New York, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ImpactCueto will presumably throw a bullpen session Monday before the Giants sign off on him rejoining the rotation this week, but the 35-year-old right-hander looks on track to return from the IL just a few days beyond the minimum amount time. The impending arrival of Cueto will help restore depth in the San Francisco rotation after Anthony DeSclafani (ankle) was moved to the IL on Sunday.

Elvis Andrus - Takes seat SundayAndrus is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.
ImpactSince returning from the paternity list Tuesday, Andrus started in each of Oakland's last five games, going 3-for-16 with a triple, a stolen base and two runs. He'll take a seat for the series finale, affording Josh Harrison a turn at shortstop.
AUGUST 22, 2021ROTOWIRE
Sean Murphy - Resting SundayMurphy is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.
ImpactYan Gomes will step in for Murphy, who went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Saturday's 6-5 loss. Murphy has seen a lighter share of the catching duties since Gomes was acquired ahead of the trade deadline, but the former still appears to be Oakland's No. 1 backstop.

Reyes Moronta - Activated and optionedThe Giants activated Moronta (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Sunday and optioned him to Triple-A Sacramento.
ImpactSidelined since mid-April with a sprained ligament in his right elbow, Moronta was cleared to begin a rehab assignment July 22. With the right-hander having reached the maximum amount of days he was eligible to spend on the assignment, the Giants had to reinstate him from the 60-day IL and clear a spot for him on the 40-man roster. Moronta posted a 2.25 ERA over his 10 appearances at Triple-A, but his ugly 7:8 K:BB in eight innings likely made the Giants unwilling to make room for him in the big-league bullpen.

Jay Jackson - Rejoins big-league bullpenThe Giants recalled Jackson from Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday.
ImpactJackson was eligible to return to the Giants less than a week after being demoted since Evan Longoria (hand) was placed on the COVID-19-related injured list in a corresponding move. Over his 15 appearances out of the big-league bullpen this season, Jackson has posted a 3.68 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 21:6 K:BB in 14.2 innings.
AUGUST 22, 2021ROTOWIRE
Evan Longoria - Heads to COVID-19 ILThe Giants placed Longoria (hand) on the COVID-19-related injured list Sunday.
ImpactA sore hand kept Longoria on the bench for the Giants' previous three games, but he'll be deactivated ahead of Sunday's series finale in Oakland while he recovers from a recent COVID-19 vaccine shot, per Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News. Even though Longoria should be feeling fine in the next day or two, the Giants could choose to stash him on the IL a little while longer in the event he's still experiencing pain in his hand.
AUGUST 22, 2021ROTOWIRE
Sammy Long - Summoned from Triple-AThe Giants recalled Long from Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday.
ImpactLong will be available out of the bullpen for Sunday's series finale in Oakland, but if he goes unused, he could step into the rotation Tuesday against the Mets as a replacement for Anthony DeSclafani (ankle), who was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. Over eight appearances (four starts) with the big club this season, Long has gone 1-1 with a 5.27 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 31:10 K:BB in 28.1 innings.
