Emotional Sergio Romo back with Giants, 'trying to wrap my head around' retirementSCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Sergio Romo didn’t think he would be this emotional. It was just catch.

Trevor May - Shaky start to spring seasonMay has registered a 9.64 ERA in five Cactus League appearances so far in spring training.
ImpactMay has allowed five runs in 4.2 innings of work, but he has struck out nine while only issuing one walk. Signed to a one-year deal by Oakland in December 2022, the right-hander has a chance for saves in 2023 -- albeit for one of the projected worst teams in baseball. His role in the Athletics' bullpen has yet to be defined, so he probably won't be appealing in fantasy drafts.

Austin Slater - Diagnosed with strained hamstringGiants manager Gabe Kapler announced Saturday that Slater has a strained hamstring, Evan Webeck of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
ImpactSlater was originally announced to have been removed from Thursday's Cactus League game with calf cramps, but imaging has revealed the strain. The outfielder is now in danger of missing Opening Day, as there's less than two weeks until the Giants take on the Yankees in regular-season play. A trip to the injured list seems more likely than not.

Joc Pederson - Returns to team following WBCPederson went 1-for-4 with an RBI in Friday's Cactus League loss to the Athletics.
ImpactPederson struggled at the World Baseball Classic, going 1-for-9 with a double over three games with Israel. He's now back in Giants camp, and he's continuing with learning first base after starting there Friday. The 30-year-old is also likely to start primarily against right-handers while seeing time in the outfield and at designated hitter this season. Pederson is hitting .278 (5-for-18) across seven Cactus League games.

Scott Alexander - Solid in Cactus League outingsAlexander has allowed one earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five over four innings through four Cactus League appearances.
ImpactAlexander saw limited time in 2022, but he found success with a 1.04 ERA and 0.75 WHIP across 17.1 innings. It's highly unlikely he repeats that over the course of a full season, but he could find some success as a middle reliever and occasional opener. The 33-year-old southpaw has amassed just 62.1 innings in the majors over the last four campaigns due to hand, forearm and shoulder injuries that have cost him large chunks of time.
