Nolan Arenado - Day off MondayArenado will sit Monday against the Cubs, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
ImpactThe Cardinals haven't indicated that this is anything other than a routine day off for the star third baseman, who's gone 1-for-13 at the plate since the All-Star break. Matt Carpenter will handle third base in his absence.

Kevin Gausman - Ready to goGausman (personal) returned to the team as expected Monday and was activated off the Family Medical Emergency List ahead of his scheduled start against the Dodgers, Jon Morosi of M...
ImpactGausman's first start of the second half was delayed so that he could be with his wife in the hospital, but he's ready to pitch again now. The Giants will certainly be happy to have him on the hill against the rival Dodgers, who trail them by one game in the standings. Gausman looked like an ace in the first half, riding a 30.5 percent strikeout rate and 6.9 percent walk rate to a 1.73 ERA in 18 starts.

Jake Woodford - Called up for first 2021 startThe Cardinals recalled Woodford from Triple-A Memphis ahead of his scheduled start Monday against the Cubs in St. Louis.
ImpactOutfielder Lars Nootbaar was optioned to Memphis in a corresponding move. Woodford's previous 17 appearances with the big club came as a reliever, but he's spent the past three weeks getting stretched out for starting duty in the minors. In his most recent outing July 13 against Norfolk, Woodford covered five innings and tossed 83 pitches, so he shouldn't face any significant restrictions with his workload Monday. Woodford tentatively lines up for a two-start week, with his second turn set to come Saturday in Cincinnati.

Julio Rodríguez - Kicks off rehab assignmentRodriguez (undisclosed) began a rehab assignment Saturday with the Cardinals' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate, going 0-for-2 with a walk while catching three innings.
ImpactRodriguez has been on the shelf at Double-A Springfield since May 11 with the unspecified injury. He'll likely need a few tune-up games in the FCL before Springfield activates him from the 7-day injured list.

Donovan Solano - Third straight two-hit gameSolano went 2-for-5 in Sunday's 2-1 loss to St. Louis.
ImpactThe 33-year-old has started the second half on a high note with three straight two-hit performances. The downside to Solano's recent work is that all six of those hits were singles. The contact-hitting infielder is slashing .274/.325/.367 with three home runs, 21 RBI, 24 runs scored and a stolen base in 237 plate appearances. He shouldn't be expected to hit for much power nor provide much speed on the basepaths, but he's started six of the Giants' last seven games at second base.
JULY 19, 2021ROTOWIRE
Giovanny Gallegos - Dominant in Sunday's winGallegos secured his 15th hold in a win over the Giants on Sunday, striking out the side but also hitting a batter during a scoreless eighth inning.
ImpactThe plunking of Wilmer Flores caused Gallegos to put in a little extra work, but the right-hander looked good doing it. Gallegos now has three straight scoreless appearances after an atypical stretch where he allowed five earned runs over three outings, and he's garnered a hold in three of his last four trips to the mound.

Lars Nootbaar - Sent to Triple-AThe Cardinals optioned Nootbaar to Triple-A Memphis on Monday.
ImpactNootbaar earned a look in an everyday role following his first big-league call-up in late June, but he served exclusively as a fourth outfielder in his second stint with St. Louis. Following his July 7 promotion, Nootbaar appeared in just two games for the Cardinals and picked up two plate appearances in total. He'll get the chance to play regularly upon returning to Memphis.
