Tecmo Bo, 'Jon Dowd,' Vick: Ranking the top 10 sports video game characters
Alex Wood - Likely to return SaturdayWood (back) is likely to return from the injured list to start Saturday's game against the Dodgers, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ImpactJohn Brebbia is slated to serve as the Giants' opener Friday and Logan Webb is locked in for Sunday. It should be Wood who fills the TBD in Los Angeles on Saturday, assuming there are no sudden complications with the back injury that has sidelined him since the beginning of June. He tossed three innings of one-run ball in a 53-pitch rehab start last Sunday at Triple-A Sacramento.

John Brebbia - Opener again FridayBrebbia will serve as the Giants' opener Friday versus the Dodgers, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.
ImpactBrebbia is basically now part of the Giants' rotation -- his last three appearances have been starts -- but he'll likely again pitch only an inning or two before giving way to a parade of other relievers. The 33-year-old righty carries a strong 3.25 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 35:9 K:BB in 27.2 innings (28 appearances) for the season.

Steven Matz - Unravels in 10th inningMatz (0-7) allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and struck out two in one inning to take the extra-inning loss versus the Giants on Wednesday.
ImpactThis is Matz's first loss since moving to the bullpen. He's given up four runs (three earned) over seven innings with a 7:0 K:BB in that span, though he's also yielded two hits and hit two batters. The southpaw is still on the outside looking in for the Cardinals' starting plans, but Matthew Liberatore hasn't exactly run away with the No. 5 starter job with mixed results over his last three outings. Matz is at a 5.49 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 52:20 K:BB over 57.1 innings this season, and he'll likely remain in a bullpen role until the struggling Cardinals opt to mix up the rotation.

Thairo Estrada - Swipes bag in extra-inning winEstrada went 2-for-5 with two RBI, a stolen base and a run scored in Wednesday's 8-5 extra-inning win over the Cardinals.
ImpactEstrada twice put the Giants ahead with an RBI single -- once in the first inning and again in the 10th. He's gone 11-for-40 (.275) over nine games since returning from a wrist injury earlier in June. The second baseman has provided ample power and speed (nine home runs, 15 steals) while slashing .296/.347/.485 over 251 plate appearances this season.
