Leads off MondayTaveras went 1-for-2 in Monday's spring game against the Giants.
ImpactThe Rangers are going to test Taveras this spring, as he's considered their leading candidate to start in center field and lead off, Sam Blum of the Dallas Morning News reports. He filled both roles Monday. "We'll see how he responds to it," said Rangers president of baseball operations Jon Daniels. "I like the idea that there's some pressure on him." The Rangers are also evaluating Eli White and brought back Delino DeShields, who spent several years in the organization, for depth in center field.

Makes spring debutDahl (shoulder) started at designated hitter and went 0-for-1 with a walk in Monday's spring game against the Giants.
ImpactThe Rangers will not have Dahl take the field until about mid-March as he returns from offseason shoulder surgery. Until then, he'll get at-bats as DH. He's highly motivated after the Rockies non-tendered him during the offseason following a year in which he batted .183/.222/.247 through just 24 games. In addition to the shoulder, Dahl dealt with lower-back soreness. The 26-year-old is expected to start in left field, and it's worth noting that he's just two years removed from an All-Star season.

Laces two hits MondayCulberson went 2-for-2 with a run scored in Monday's spring game against the Giants.
ImpactCulberson got the start at third base and is very much in the mix for that position, which is wide open. Brock Holt started at third in Sunday's Cactus League opener, and Rougned Odor is expected to get reps there this spring as well. Although Culberson is on a minor-league deal and faces an uphill battle, manager Chris Woodward told Kennedi Landry of MLB.com that the infielder worked hard on his swing during the offseason, and it showed Monday.
