Slated to open Sunday Alexander will start Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks as the opener, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Impact Jakob Junis hasn't had much success lately (7.13 ERA in his last five appearances), so manager Gabe Kapler will throw the lefty Alexander in front of Junis and give Arizona a couple different looks early. Alexander has been excellent since joining the major-league team in San Francisco (1.38 ERA, 0.77 WHIP), but he hasn't thrown more than 1.1 innings in an appearance.

Secures second save Alexander earned a save against the Rockies on Monday, striking out one batter in a perfect 10th inning.

Impact Usual closer Camilo Doval pitched a scoreless ninth inning to send the game to an extra frame, and Alexander got the call after San Francisco scored three times in the top of the 10th. The left-hander needed only nine pitches to retire the side in order and notch his second save. Both have come in the past eight days, and Alexander hasn't given up a run across four innings during that stretch.

Outrighted off roster Alexander (shoulder) was outrighted off the Dodgers' 40-man roster Friday, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.

Impact Alexander cruised to a 2.93 ERA in 15.1 innings in the early part of the season but wound up missing much of the year with shoulder inflammation. It's unclear whether or not he'll be back to 100 percent by the start of spring training.
