Out of Friday's lineup
Beer is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Padres.
Impact
Beer walked off San Diego with a three-run homer Opening Day, but he'll still make his way to the bench for the second game of the season. Cooper Hummel will bat leadoff as the designated hitter for the Diamondbacks on Friday.

Celebrates National Beer Day
Beer went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Padres.
Impact
April 7 was National Beer Day, and appropriately enough, the rookie prompted a celebration in the home team's locker room after a walkoff blast. Arizona's offense scuffled for most of the game, but it got going after Yu Darvish didn't come out for the seventh inning. Beer served as the designated hitter and batted seventh in the order, and he will likely remain in the lower third most of this season -- that's been manager Torey Lovullo's customary practice with young players.

Picks up Opening Day start
Beer will serve as the Diamondbacks' designated hitter and will bat seventh in Thursday's season opener against the Padres.
Impact
Few players are expected to benefit from the universal DH quite like Beer, a power-hitting 25-year-old who profiles as a below-average defender even at first base. Expect the lefty-hitting Beer to at least handle a short-side platoon role at DH, and the early-season absences of two key contributors in Nick Ahmed (shoulder) and Josh Rojas (oblique) could even allow him to stick in the lineup versus some lefties, too. Beer produced a .909 OPS in 435 plate appearances at Triple-A Reno last season before getting a cup of coffee with Arizona in September.

Swinging hot stick
Beer went 1-for-1 with a two-run home run in Friday's spring training game against the Angels.
Impact
Beer finished up the game at first base and launched his first Cactus League home run. Arizona's leading candidate to serve as the designated hitter is 5-for-5 with two doubles and homer over the last three spring games.

Stakes claim to DH
Beer went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored in Thursday's spring training game against the Brewers.
Impact
Beer started at first base, but he's the leading candidate to become the primary designated hitter. He appears to be past the shoulder injury that required surgery last September. Thus far in the Cactus League, Beer is 5-for-9 with three RBI and three runs scored over five games.

Full participant Monday
Beer (shoulder) was a full participant in Monday's workout, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact
Beer, who underwent surgery last September, is expected to compete to earn a portion of the designated hitter at-bats. In five September games for Arizona in 2021, Beer went 4-for-9 with a home run, a double, three RBI and four runs scored.

Health update coming
Arizona general manager Mike Hazen did not have an update on Beer (shoulder) this weekend but said he should in a few days, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact
Beer's five-game entree into MLB last September was a success before he dislocated his shoulder. Team personnel were barred from communicating with 40-man roster players during the lockout, so the Diamondbacks are still in the process of acquiring information on players' health. Now that MLB has adopted the designated hitter for the NL, Beer is considered a leader to become the team's primary DH or at least the left-handed component in a platoon. Beer has consistently posted a slugging percentage above .500 and an OPS over .900 in the minors.

Set for shoulder surgery
Beer will undergo surgery on his dislocated left shoulder Thursday, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
Impact
The 25-year-old remains without a specific timeline for his return, though manager Torey Lovullo said the timeline will be measured in "months not weeks." Beer went 4-for-10 with a home run, a double, three RBI and four runs in his first five big-league games before suffering the dislocated shoulder, and it's unclear if he'll be ready for the start of spring training in February.

Lands on injured list
Beer was placed on the 10-day injured list with a dislocated left shoulder Friday.
Impact
Beer left Tuesday's game against the Dodgers with the injury, though reports from Wednesday indicated that he was feeling better. The Diamondbacks evidently weren't satisfied with his progress, so he'll be out for at least another week. Kole Calhoun (hamstring) returned from the injured list to take his place on the roster.

Feeling better
Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said Beer (shoulder) felt better Wednesday and was considering taking swings prior to that night's game, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
Impact
Beer sustained a dislocated shoulder during Tuesday's game, and X-rays came negative for bone chips. He had the shoulder put back into place and is considered day-to-day. Lovullo did not offer any more details regarding the player's availability or if Beer will require a stint on the injured list.

Suffers dislocated shoulder
Beer was diagnosed with a dislocated left shoulder after leaving Tuesday's game against the Dodgers.
Impact
Beer is 4-for-10 with a home run, a double, three RBI and four runs since making his major-league debut last week, but the dislocated shoulder may bring an early end to his first taste of the big leagues. The 24-year-old's status should be updated within the next couple days, but he'll likely require a trip to the injured list.

Leaves with apparent injury
Beer was removed from Tuesday's game against the Dodgers with an apparent left arm injury, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
Impact
Beer suffered the injury during the second inning when he landed awkwardly on his left arm when diving for a ball at first base, and he was unable to finish the frame. The 24-year-old exited the contest before making his first plate appearance. He should be considered day-to-day until the team updates his status.

Homers in first AB
Beer entered Friday's game as a pinch hitter and hit a home run in the eighth inning of a 5-4 loss to Seattle.
Impact
Beer, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Reno earlier in the day, homered in first plate appearance in the majors. The lefty-hitting Beer hit for first baseman Christian Walker against right-hander Diego Castillo and went on to serve as designated hitter for the final inning. The 2018 first-round pick of the Astros posted a .909 OPS with 16 home runs and 33 doubles over 100 games for the Aces. He played primarily at first base in the minors and joins Pavin Smith as a second left-handed bat to complement Walker at the position.
