Impact Martinez failed to pitch in any of the Astros' seven postseason games to this point and will now have to watch the World Series as a spectator. Will Smith will replace him on the roster and provide the Astros with a left-handed option out of the bullpen as the team takes on the Phillies in the Fall Classic.

Sent down Friday Martinez was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land on Friday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Impact Martinez was called up by the Astros in late August, and he allowed five hits and a walk while striking out seven in six scoreless innings over six relief appearances in the majors. In spite of his effective results, the right-hander will return to Sugar Land after Justin Verlander (calf) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list Friday.

Impact Martinez was productive over the first half of the season but has had inconsistent results over the last month.
