On base three times in debut Whitcomb went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored in Saturday's 6-1 win over the White Sox. Impact Whitcomb didn't feature in Friday's contest after receiving his first career call-up from Triple-A Sugar Land. He only had to wait a day for his debut, and he made the most of it as one of six Astros to log multiple hits. Whitcomb got the start at third base in place of Alex Bregman (elbow), who is considered day-to-day. Whitcomb slashed .293/.378/.530 with 25 home runs, 26 stolen bases, 91 RBI and 73 runs scored over 108 contests with Sugar Land. Assuming he adjusts well to major-league pitching, his defensive versatility should be enough to find a way into the lineup regularly, especially if he can push the struggling Jon Singleton for playing time at first base.
