Steady in no-decision Arrighetti allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out six over five innings in a no-decision versus the Twins on Sunday.

Impact While Arrighetti put too much traffic on the basepaths, he was able to limit the damage. Christian Vazquez drove in both runs on Arrighetti's line with an RBI single in the second and a fielder's choice in the fourth. Arrighetti has had a couple of stumbles lately, completing five innings in just three of his last six starts. He's now at a 5.96 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 86:41 K:BB through 74 innings over 16 starts for the year. The rookie right-hander is projected to make his next start at home versus the Rangers.

Impact Five of the six hits Arrighetti allowed went for extra bases, including a three-run home run to George Springer and a solo homer to Spencer Horwitz, both of which came in the third inning. Tuesday's outing came on the back of the rookie's best start of 2024 when he blanked the Rockies across seven innings. Arrighetti has surrendered six or more runs three times this season and has walked multiple batters in all but one of his appearances, owning a 6.13 ERA overall. He's on track to close out a two-start week Sunday in Minnesota.

Impact Arrighetti not only recorded the first quality start of his career, he also fanned a career-high eight batters and didn't allow any extra-base hits. The rookie right-hander did walk three batters -- he's issued multiple free passes in each of his nine starts on the campaign -- but none of those came back to hurt him. Arrighetti has been making a case to stick in the Astros' rotation following a slow start to the campaign. He held an 8.44 ERA after a poor outing May 8 but has since won three of his past four starts with a 3.63 ERA over that stretch.

Impact McTaggart hasn't pitched many official innings this spring, and he was tagged for five earned runs across three innings by the Phillies on March 8. However, he started Houston's Spring Breakout game Sunday and impressed by showcasing his five-pitch mix. Arrighetti threw 64 innings at Triple-A Sugar Land in 2023, though he wasn't all that sharp with only a 62:36 K:BB. Nevertheless, he may be called upon in 2024, particularly with the Astros dealing with several injuries to their pitching staff.

On minor-league injured list Arrighetti was placed on the minor-league injured list Saturday with a right forearm contusion, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Impact The timing of the injury seemingly ends Arrighetti's season, but it's a positive that he doesn't appear to be dealing with any sort of muscle issue. The 2021 sixth-round pick reached Triple-A for the first time this season but saw his numbers tail off once he got there. His strikeout rate fell to 23.1 percent after coming in at 31.2 percent at the Double-A level, while his walk rate jumped from 9.1 percent to 13.4 percent. The result was an uninspiring 4.64 ERA and a 5.36 FIP.

Makes way to Triple-A The Astros promoted Arrighetti from Double-A Corpus Christi to Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday.

Impact The 23-year-old earned the move up to the Pacific Coast League after he posted a 4.15 ERA and 79:23 K:BB across 60.2 innings at Corpus Christi. Though Arrighetti now on the doorstep of his first big-league promotion, the Astros likely aren't counting on him to make starts in the majors in 2023 unless the team's rotation depth is tested by injuries.
