Bounces back Sunday Strider pitched six shutout innings Sunday versus the Dodgers, allowing five hits while striking out seven and walking none in a no-decision.

Impact Strider was tagged for six runs by the Giants in his last start, but he bounced back with an excellent performance against one of the National League's top teams. The rookie right-hander submitted his longest start of the year, throwing 64 of 95 pitches for strikes while keeping runs off the board for the second time in six starts since he joined the rotation. He owns a 3.02 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 79:22 K:BB through 53.2 innings overall. Strider is expected to make his next start on the road in Cincinnati next weekend.

Impact Strider struggled against a veteran Giants team that chased him after only 3.2 innings. He had previously been effective for the Braves since being moved to the rotation last month, and he came in to face the Giants fresh off of an 11-strikeout performance against the Nationals on June 16th. Strider has electric stuff, including a fastball which averages 98 mph, but it remains to be seen if his mainly two-pitch repertoire (fastball-slider) will play as a starter over the long term. He will look to bounce back in his next start which tentatively lines up for Sunday at home against the Dodgers.

Career-best start Strider (3-2) gave up two earned runs on one hit and two walks while striking out a career-high 11 batters Wednesday against the Nationals. He picked up the win.

Impact This was Strider's best start of his career, as he tied his career high with 5.2 innings and blew past his previous career high of eight strikeouts. He topped out at 100.9 mph and average 98.8 mph with his fastball, which had a 33 percent whiff rate in this outing. His slider registered a 48 percent whiff rate and he threw his third-pitch changeup just four times out of 106 total pitches. Strider has a 1.76 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 24:8 K:BB in 15.1 innings over his last three starts. He may get a pair of starts next week against the Giants and Dodgers, both of which would come at home.

Impact Making his second start, Strider rebounded from a poor performance to permit just one run despite loading the bases in both the third and fourth innings. It's been a mixed transition to the rotation for the 23-year-old who's allowed six runs and seven walks across his two starts after opening the year as a surprisingly shutdown reliever. The positive has been Strider's pitch count of 72 and 87 pitches in his last two games after averaging 37 pitches per appearance in his first 11 games.

Impact Though Strider failed to escape the fifth inning and allowed five runs -- one shy of the total he surrendered in his first 11 relief appearances -- in his first MLB start Monday in Arizona, the hard-throwing rookie had some positive takeaways from the outing. Impact There was lots of hype about Strider's move into a starting role after he tallied a 2.22 ERA and 13.7 K/9 across 11 appearances as a reliever to begin the season, but the transition didn't go as smoothly as Atlanta hoped. The right-hander gave up three runs in the first inning and two more in the fifth before he was lifted for a reliever after 72 pitches. On a more positive note, Strider racked up 14 swinging strikes and seven punchouts, showcasing his ability to fool batters when he's at his best. Should he stick in the rotation, Strider will face a challenge in his next start, which is scheduled to take place in Colorado this weekend.

Impact When Atlanta optioned Bryce Elder and Kyle Muller to Triple-A Gwinnett on May 1, Strider looked like a potential candidate to step into the final opening in the rotation, but the big club will instead promote Tucker Davidson from Gwinnett to give him another look as the No. 5 starter beginning with Tuesday's game against the Brewers. Brilliant in bulk relief outing Strider gave up four hits and struck out eight over four scoreless innings of relief but didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 6-3 loss to the Brewers.

Impact Entering the game after opener Jesse Chavez had coughed up two runs in the first inning, Strider shut down the Milwaukee offense and gave Atlanta a chance to tie the game up. Unfortunately, as soon as the rookie right-hander exited after firing 69 pitches (50 strikes), the Brewers' bats got rolling again. Strider battled some control issues in April, walking multiple batters in three straight appearances, but he appears to be tightening things up and has 13 strikeouts against only one walk over his last two outings and 7.2 innings. Atlanta has struggled to find a consistent fifth starter so far this season, but Strider could soon get a look in the rotation given his recent improvements. On the season, he sports a 2.16 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 24:9 K:BB through 16.2 innings.
