Impact According to Jones, the way in which Shildt spoke about the matter would seem to point to Woodford getting the starting nod Thursday. A rotation shakeup wouldn't be surprising, considering that Kim was expected to spend the final five weeks of the season in a relief role until Jack Flaherty's (shoulder) move back to the injured list forced the Cardinals to alter those plans. Though Kim turned in a decent showing Aug. 29 in Pittsburgh in his first start in place of Flaherty, the southpaw was lit up for four runs on seven hits and a walk over 1.2 innings in Saturday's loss to the Brewers. Meanwhile, Woodford shined in long relief behind Kim, striking out five over 5.1 shutout innings to potentially earn himself a look in the rotation in the process.

Brandon Dickson - Designated for assignment Dickson was designated for assignment by the Cardinals on Monday, Zachary Silver of MLB.com reports.

Impact Dickson's contract was selected by the Cardinals on Wednesday, and he allowed three runs in two innings across two appearances during his time on the major-league roster. The right-hander will be cast off the 40-man roster once again after southpaw Andrew Miller (foot) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list.

Impact Gallegos was given the chance to record a five-out save Sunday. He finished off the eighth inning with ease before running into trouble in the ninth. He gave up a run before recording an out and then found himself in a bases-loaded jam. St. Louis elected to throw Alex Reyes on the mound after Gallegos' 30th pitch. Reyes immediately allowed a walkoff grand slam, charging Gallegos with three of those runs. With both of the teams' main closing options struggling, the Cardinals' closer role is still wide open. Gallegos now owns a 3.46 ERA through 67.2 innings.

Alex Reyes - Coughs up grand slam Reyes (5-8) gave up a walkoff grand slam and blew the save in Sunday's loss to the Brewers. He was charged with one run.

Impact Reyes was called upon to protect a 5-2 lead with the bases loaded and one out in the ninth inning. He served up a walkoff grand slam to Daniel Vogelbach on his second pitch. He had worked two clean innings this month since blowing his last save chance Aug. 29. Giovanny Gallegos also struggled Sunday and the Cardinals' closer gig is still up in the air. Impact The only real damage against Lester was Pablo Reyes' solo shot in the second inning. The veteran lefty was in line for his third win as a Cardinal before the bullpen collapsed in the ninth. Over his last three outings, he's allowed just three runs through 16.2 innings (1.62 ERA) with an 11:6 K:BB. Lester is projected to face the Reds at home next week.

Impact The left-hander went on the injured list with a left foot blister Aug. 28, and he appears to have a shot of being activated when first eligible Monday. Miller's standing in the bullpen hierarchy has taken a hit this season, but a player of his experience would certainly be valuable down the stretch run as the Cardinals make a postseason push.
