Paul DeJong had an RBI double in the 10th inning and the St. Louis Cardinals edged the Chicago White Sox 4-3

Willson Contreras - Back in action Sunday Contreras (mouth) will start at catcher and bat cleanup in Sunday's game against the White Sox.
Impact Contreras sat out both of the past two days while recovering from a tooth procedure, but he'll check back into the starting lineup for the final game before the All-Star break. Ivan Herrera will return to the bench to make room in the starting nine for Contreras.

Dylan Carlson - Hits bench Sunday Carlson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox.
Impact With Tommy Edman (wrist) recently moving to the injured list, Carlson has emerged as a near-everyday player in the outfield. Though he started in each of the previous six games while going 3-for-15 with a whopping eight walks, Carlson will get a breather Sunday as the Cardinals give a spot start to Alec Burleson in the corner outfield.

Gavin Sheets - Losing playing time to Colas Sheets is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
Impact On the bench for the fourth time in six games, Sheets appears to have moved into a bench role in the wake of the White Sox bringing aboard another lefty-hitting corner outfielder in Oscar Colas from Triple-A Charlotte. Colas has gotten off to a slow start at the plate since being recalled, but he'll likely get some time following the All-Star break to try and right the ship since Sheets wasn't provided ample production in a strong-side platoon role. Since turning in back-to-back two-hit games in the middle of June, Sheets has gone 5-for-33 at the dish over his last 14 contests.

Seby Zavala - Stealing work from Grandal Zavala will start at catcher and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
Impact Though the White Sox recently added a third catcher (Carlos Perez) to the active roster, his addition hasn't prompted manager Pedro Grifol to make major use of Yasmani Grandal or Zavala at designated hitter. Instead, it's been Zavala who has emerged as the primary backstop, while Grandal has lost out on playing time. Zavala will be behind the dish for the sixth time in eight games Sunday and has earned the extra work by supplying a 1.117 OPS since June 28. At least until his bat cools down, Zavala looks like he'll continue to operate as Chicago's preferred catcher.

Yasmani Grandal - Losing work to Zavala Grandal is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
Impact Grandal is on the bench for the second straight day and for the fifth time in seven games, perhaps signaling that there's been a changing of the guard atop the depth chart at catcher. Seby Zavala will pick up another turn behind the dish in place of Grandal, who has turned in an underwhelming .594 OPS since the beginning of June and has also taken a step back defensively in 2023.

Andrew Benintendi - Managing wrist issue Benintendi is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals due to a lingering wrist injury, Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com reports.
Impact Benintendi, who also sat out Saturday's 3-0 loss, will get some extra time to manage the wrist issue, which manager Pedro Grifol said is something that has bothered the outfielder all season. According to Grifol, the White Sox don't view the injury as anything that will sideline Benintendi beyond the All-Star break, as the 29-year-old is expected to be back in action for the White Sox's first game of the second half Friday in Atlanta. Benintendi has been a disappointment in the first season of his five-year, $75 million deal with Chicago, as he's batting an excellent .280 but has provided just one home run in 350 plate appearances on the campaign.
