Jonathan Bermudez - Optioned to minor-league campBermudez was optioned to minor-league camp Thursday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ImpactBermudez was added to the Astros' 40-man roster in Novemberand allowed a run on four hits and a walk while striking out one in one inning during his lone spring appearance this year. He'll presumably begin the 2022 campaign at Triple-A Sugar Land.

Shawn Dubin - Demoted to minor-league campThe Astros optioned Dubin to their minor-league camp Thursday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
ImpactDubin is expected to return to Triple-A Sugar Land to begin the 2022 campaign after he turned in a 3.44 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 69:19 K:BB in 49.2 innings with the affiliate a season ago. After being added to the 40-man roster over the offseason, Dubin should be on the shortlist for a call-up to the big club if the Astros have a need for a spot starter or multi-inning reliever.

Tyler Ivey - Heads to Triple-AThe Astros optioned Ivey to Triple-A Sugar Land on Thursday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
ImpactIvey, who made a 4.2-inning spot start for the Astros last May before spending the rest of the season in the minors, is expected to slot into the Sugar Land rotation to begin 2022 after missing out on a spot on Houston's Opening Day roster.

Brendan Donovan - Making case for Opening DayDonovan is making a case to be a utility man on the Cardinals' Opening Day roster, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
ImpactManager Oliver Marmol has noticed Donovan not just for his bat (3-for-12 with two walks in spring training) but also his defensive versatility. The 25-year-old is a natural second baseman, but he can also play first and third base in addition to all three outfield spots. He also saw 86 innings at shortstop in the minors last season, where he enjoyed a meteoric rise through the Cardinals' farm system. Donovan played in 108 minor-league games in 2021 at the High-A (25), Double-A (50) and Triple-A (33) levels, posting a combined slash line of .304/.399/.455 with 12 home runs, 66 RBI, 73 runs scored and 19 stolen bases. It's too soon to tell if he'll get his first look at the major-league level this year, but he's got the tools to get his foot in the door.

Ryan Helsley - Spring debut set for FridayHelsley (elbow/knee) will make his spring training debut Friday versus the Nationals, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
ImpactHelsley underwent knee surgery in the offseason, but this news indicates he's recovered from that operation. The 27-year-old played a versatile role in the bullpen last year. He posted a 6-4 record, one save, 10 holds, 4.56 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 47:27 K:BB across 47.1 innings. He's got solid velocity -- he averaged 97.5 mph on his fastball last year -- and the right-hander's 3.99 FIP from last season suggests he was a little unlucky. Still, he's not expected to be part of the closer committee to begin 2022.
