Paul DeJong - Closing in on full throwingCardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Monday that DeJong (arm) will take part in light throwing across the diamond for the next couple of days before slowly ramping back up to full...
ImpactDeJong may be a week or more away from being ready to play shortstop in spring games, but his bout with what the team is describing as a case of "dead arm" won't prevent him from getting in at-bats during Grapefruit League play. He's slated to serve as the Cardinals' designated hitter and No. 5 batter in Monday's game against the Mets in what will mark his second appearance of the exhibition slate.

Eury Pérez - Teases triple digits SundayPerez allowed one run on four hits over two innings in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals. He struck out one and topped out at 99.6 mph with his fastball.
ImpactThe teenage prospect also flashed his plus changeup, and all three of his swings and misses on the day came against the change. The Marlins aren't going to rush Perez to the majors and he'll almost certainly begin the season in the minors, but he has the talent to force his way into the Miami rotation at some point this summer if he posts big numbers at Triple-A.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. - Debuts in centerChisholm got the start in center field Sunday against the Cardinals, hitting leadoff and going 0-for-2 with a strikeout.
ImpactHe was a little timid on defense, allowing a Nolan Arenado bloop to fall in for a hit that he likely could have caught, but the Marlins are committed to having Chisholm transition to the outfield this season. His .305 career OBP doesn't make him an ideal fit at the top of the batting order, but if he hangs onto the leadoff spot he could make a big impact in stolen bases after swiping 37 bags through his first 205 big-league games.

Sixto Sánchez - Set for another bullpen sessionSanchez (shoulder) threw 15 pitches during a bullpen session Monday and will have another one Friday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ImpactSanchez threw exclusively fastballs in the session, marking his first mound work of spring training. The 24-year-old has started the long process of returning from the arthroscopic shoulder surgery he underwent in October, and he'll likely be ramped up slowly in his throwing program over the coming months. In addition to rehabbing from shoulder surgery, Sanchez has reportedly dropped 46 pounds over the offseason as he prepares to return to game action for the first time since 2020. Sanchez had been a promising prospect prior to undergoing a pair of shoulder procedures the past two years, but his long-term outlook is uncertain.
